Georgetown Wait-List 2015-2016 (Class of 2019)

I couldn't find a Georgetown waitlist thread for this year, so here it is. I got my email on Friday:

Dear xxxxx:

Thank you for applying to Georgetown University Law Center. The Committee on Admissions has considered your application and has placed your name on our Waiting List.

The Waiting List is comprised of competitive candidates whom we would like to include in our first year class, if space permits. You should be aware, however, that we do maintain a separate category of applicants who have been placed on the Preferred Waiting List and who will be given priority consideration if spaces become available in the first year class. For this reason, it is advisable that Waiting List candidates make deposits and fulfill the requirements to secure a place at another law school.

As part of our rolling admissions system, offers of admission are extended throughout the spring. Over the summer, the files of Waiting List candidates are re-evaluated and final decisions will be issued, some as late as registration day in August. Should a decision to admit you be made earlier, however, we will contact you right away.

We realize that your circumstances may change in the coming months. An e-mail will be sent to you in May, if not earlier, asking you to reconfirm your interest and update your contact information. Meanwhile, please update us on any approaching deadlines you may be facing. If you do not wish to have your application remain under consideration, please e-mail us at admis@law.georgetown.edu. On behalf of the Committee, we appreciate your patience and continued interest in Georgetown.

Sincerely,

Andrew Cornblatt
Dean of Admissions
Associate Vice President for Graduate Admissions and Enrollment

Preferred email:

Thank you for applying to Georgetown University Law Center. The Committee on Admissions has reviewed your application and has placed your name on our Preferred Waiting List.

Applicants on the Preferred Waiting List are among those we would like to include in our first year class. These applicants have the strongest credentials of all waiting list candidates and, as a result, receive priority consideration if spaces become available. Offers of admission to waiting list candidates may be made up until registration day in August.

Although the number varies from year to year, typically fifty spaces open for waiting list candidates, some as late as registration day. Should a decision to admit you be made earlier, however, we will contact you right away. Applicants on the Preferred Waiting List are not ranked.

We realize that your circumstances may change in the coming months. An e-mail will be sent to you in May, if not earlier, asking you to reconfirm your interest and update your contact information. Meanwhile, please update us on any approaching deadlines you may be facing. If you do not wish to have your application remain under consideration, please send us an e-mail to admis@law.georgetown.edu. I just wonder how many people are on the "preferred" waitlist.

+1 for Preferred waitlist. The email says ~50 spots may open up, but how big is the list? Any ideas what our chances really are to get off the list?

Do you think I should tell them I have been accepted to another school with the 5/01 deadline? They want to know about our deadlines, right?

I think they will know that you have a lot more applications out and some good offers received before that May 1 deadline. But what they will be interested in is if you would go to Georgetown if accepted. I know it's a good idea to send a letter of continuing interest and let them know that they are your number one choice (if that is in fact the situation).

Good advice! I did tell them that. I'm just trying to determine if it would be worth it with no money. I'm from Ohio, so the Ohio State offer (in state tuition + scholarship) would definitely be attractive, too.

But you really can't beat Gtown's location, faculty, opportunities, etc.

I got placed on the priority waitlist last Friday (2/19) - they e-mailed me right after 5 PM which I found amusing.

Checking In - hanging out on the "Preferred Wait-List" for now. Should be interesting to see how this plays out.

I called today and talked to an admissions officer about what sort of $$ situation should wait-lists prepare for. She was really nice about it but pretty much said that if you are wait-list you can pretty much bet on attending at sticker. Just in case anyone wanted to know/didn't know

Just got wait listed. Kinda a moral victory considering GTown was a total moon shot.

I'll ride it out just for that sliver of hope :D

If you are on the waitlist, when you should you send a LOCI? Is it necessary to send one, or do you wait for the school to contact you for additional information?

According to this, something around 20%? Might be lower this year if they're cutting class sizes to boost median LSAT.
