I received an e-mail, which invited me to register, earlier today. There was a link embedded in it - separate from the admitted students page on their website.bievmic wrote:Where did you go to register?Harry_Pluxen wrote:Just registered for admitted students open house! See you all there.

I realize this is as boring as it gets, but do you like the school?

I honestly really like it, the people here are ridiculously chill. The professors I've had so far are funny and pretty straight forward. Last semester I ddint feel like any of them tried to trick me or play mind games. The class size is really small i think the 1L's have 157 and your sections are even smaller (about 50 for the large section and 30 for the small) which makes it really comfortable. I'm glad I came here & would recommend it. I also moved here from pretty far out of state so if you have any questions about that I can give you some insight.LuxTheMuppet wrote:allthelawls wrote:Hey everyone! How long does it usually take for the application file to be complete? I applied early morning on 1/22 so very recently but every other school I applied to had a VERY quick response time to sending out an e-mail saying my file is complete. Perhaps it's because of the weekend?

I was wondering how soon you would recommend searching for an apartment for the fall? I know back at my UG (also a big 10 school) apartments semi-close to campus would start filling up by October/November the year before. Is this true at UIUC as well?allthelawls wrote:Hey everyone! Anyone familiar with the negotiation process at U of I for $$? This is one of my top choices and I am looking to cut down costs as much as possible.tovictory wrote:Hey! The popular places (e.g., The Village, Place 117) book pretty quickly, so I recommend now-ish if you're interested in one of those. The Village is popular with law/grad students. I found my 1L apartment and reserved a unit in May leading up to the beginning of the academic year, but it was a bit off campus. You'll definitely be able to find something, though. Check out the Tenant Union, Padmapper, Craigslist, etc...ArticSnowPanther wrote:I was wondering how soon you would recommend searching for an apartment for the fall? If you're above/close to both medians and have offers from peer schools (think Ind/Minn/WUSTL/ND), then call and ask them to bump you up. The UIUC threads are littered with stories of those who were successful doing this. One of my good friends had similar schollys from both Minn & WUSTL and was successful in negotiating up to 75%.skyhigh4760 wrote:Anyone familiar with the negotiation process at U of I for $$? Do any of the grad/law student housing options allow you to move in as of say...mid-July? From what I can gather, they tend to have 12 month leases beginning in August only. Some of the info is not clear though.Chardee_MacDennis wrote:The popular places (e.g., The Village, Place 117) book pretty quickly, so I recommend now-ish if you're interested in one of those. I imagine that's a case-by-case with each complex. I don't know any 1Ls from my class who moved in that early.Harry_Pluxen wrote:Do any of the grad/law student housing options allow you to move in as of say...mid-July? I met a girl. She seemed like a normal social type person. If I were to stereo type her think high school cheerleader-type. She said she liked UIUC however she wouldn't feel safe walking more than a block off campus. Love feedback from females who live there or go to school there.

When did most people move in during your 1L year? And were they mostly in residences or living off-campus?Chardee_MacDennis wrote:I imagine that's a case-by-case with each complex. Really? I'm a woman, and I don't feel that way. But I guess everyone is different. I've never felt unsafe and during finals I left the law building alone at 4 and 5AM.Go Justice wrote:I met a girl. I think most people got here the weekend before orientation. So around Aug 16thish. Most people live in the Village & place at 117. But there are a ton of people who live on campus in the big buildings ex. "Here" and "310 Burnham."

Mid-August. I mean, nobody really lives in campus housing. Everything is technically "off campus."Harry_Pluxen wrote:When did most people move in during your 1L year? Re: University of Illinois c/o 2019 Applicants
I decided to attend UIUC in may, moved in mid-July, and it was a pain. I got lucky and found a great apartment, but the search was a lot of work. I would recommend calling the bigger building management companies and telling them your situation. Other than that, just check Craigslist consistently.Harry_Pluxen wrote:Do any of the grad/law student housing options allow you to move in as of say...mid-July? Just a warning though no one from your class will move to Champaign until August so your social life will not be great. I had to move here in July, but if you don't have to, I wouldn't.
