Honestly, you should not go to either school on those scholarships. You are going to incur over 200k in debt at Cardozo and over 100k at NYLS, with only a tiny chance of getting a job that pays enough to pay off that debt. NYLS sees under half of its graduates get a job in law, and sends basically no one into big law. Cardozo has better employment stats, but still, only about 10% will get a job in Big Law and be able to pay off 200k. And, no offense, the fact that you are getting only 6k at Cardozo does not bode well for your chances to finish in the top 10% of the class. It may be tough to hear, but going to either law school on those scholarships will most likely lead to a debt load you will never be able to pay offschooliscool2016 wrote:Accepted. 6k renewable Dean's Merit Scholarship, if I start in May instead of Fall. They're giving me two weeks to decide to enroll for May when I'm still waiting to hear from six more schools. The only other school I heard from so far is NYLS which is offering $25k a year. Is Cardozo's reputation worth accepting enrollment at the low scholarship offer?

And as fast as I found out I got admitted I will be withdrawing as quickly. Tiny bit of $ back in the pot, good luck all.

ehh I doubt there is much correlation between the scholarship offer and how well a certain person will do in law school (in terms of potential to succeed). Plenty of people with full scholarships don't do well and plenty of people with no scholarships and below both incoming class medians score at the top. What is the difference between a 165 and a 155 in LSAT in terms of intelligence? And how relevant is uGPA when it could be based on courses that have nothing in common with courses in law schools. These things could mean a difference between full ride and zero money, yet be totally irrelevant in predicting success in law school. Just making a point that you can't reliably predict one's success in law school simply by what is given. So if you are getting a nice scholarship I would not just kick back and relax thinking that I am so much better than everyone else Also, if no other loans you don't necessarily need BL salary to pay off 200k. Sure it will be rather burdensome in the beginning, but it could be less burdensome than whatever he would have to deal with otherwise (just speculating). And in that case its not a bad decision.
But yeah, I agree that its not a very good idea to attend either LS at these prices.

Speaking of which, is anyone else disappointed that they are replacing the Alabama with the Benjamin? I get that it's a new renovated place but a 20 minute walk vs a 2 min one is a huge difference.Kk11 wrote:Does any one know about how much it costs to live in Cardozo's residence hall?

Anyone on here actually committing to Cardozo? Is it well known in NY job market or nah? Obviously not a NYU or Columbia, but isn't it at least decent?

Re: Cardozo Law C/O 2019 Applicants
I know a lot of students on this bulletin have offers from Brooklyn and Dozo, just wondering what you guys were thinking in picking one over the other. I have 45 k per year at BLS(top 80%) and a full ride at Dozo(guaranteed) . Any suggestions on what I should do would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to ask for the same advice over on the BLS page, to see what they considered regarding BLS vs. Dozo.

Re: Cardozo Law C/O 2019 Applicants
Hey guys!
Question, I'm sure this has been asked many times but I can't find a clear answer. I've been waitlisted for the fall but offered consideration for May. My question is, if I do the consideration for May, will I be taken off of the fall waitlist?
And if I do get into the May program, will that automatically take me off of the fall waitlist? I'm from out of state so May is kind of abrupt for me.

Had my scholarship increased from $42,000 to $44,000.
Won't be attending however, so it's money back in the pot.
Best of luck to those waiting!

Any thoughts on the new employment data that came out recently for 2015 graduates? I saw a 12% bump in bar required full time long term J.D. positions.

Re: Cardozo Law C/O 2019 Applicants
Tried negotiating for more money before the deposit deadline in April and I was told no, but they had increased me from 30k a year to 35k just based on merit and without me contacting them. Brooklyn Law just gave me a full ride. Any thoughts or opinions on what to do? I put down my deposit for Cardozo, but it is a full ride at Brooklyn....

Personally I would try to avoid debt as much as possible, and based on what I have been told, the schools are so close to one another that if you're getting a full ride at one over the other, you should most certainly take the full ride.
