What's campus life like?

It's great.
If you are into the whole party scene, you can find action basically any night of the week with whatever crowd you like hanging out with. If you like EDM dance clubs open until 2 in the morning, Iowa City has them. If you like traditional college bars crawling with undergrads, Iowa City has them. If you like more laid back bars where you can have a drink and intellectual conversation with your friends, Iowa City has them.
When there are football games and other events like homecoming going on in the fall, the atmosphere is wonderful. It's probably comparable to other Big Ten schools as far as this goes. Iowans are pretty crazy when it comes to football, tailgating, drinking, sports, etc. It's very lively and energetic especially when the Hawkeyes are in town and there are always tons of events going on. There's a great farmer's market and enough weekend activities to satisfy anyone who doesn't expect anything similar entertainment wise to a major market like NYC or DC.
Campus is...alright. It's pretty much an assortment of random buildings merging into the downtown area divided by a river. The law school is right next to the river, three humungous residence halls, a massive dining hall, the main library, and the impressive-but-always-busy campus recreation and wellness center. So there's always tons of activity going on around the law building itself. It definitely doesn't feel like you're out in the boonies. The other positive is that the Cambus (Iowa's bus system) stops right in front of the law building and goes to basically everywhere in the city. It's shockingly efficient, easy to use, and free.
I would say that the best thing about Iowa is the cost. Last year I lived in a decent house in what's regarded as the best location on campus and paid $320/month with four other roommates. The year before that I paid $500 for an up-scale apartment with nice amenities that included utilities and Internet/cable in a nice location. STL is generally regarded as a dirt cheap city COL wise but Iowa City is even less. If you're willing to pay $700+ for an apartment people will literally think you're a millionaire and you'll have a baller apartment.
I was looking forward to campus life at WUSTL when I first got here but I realized it's not as important as I thought it would be. 1L is so bogged down with class and studying that it's difficult to thoroughly enjoy what the school offers socially and what STL offers socially as well. I've gotten a decent taste but I feel like if I was in a larger city like DC or NYC then there's no way that I could even scratch the surface or campus life or city life or both, especially not during 1L at least.
Hope this helps. Feel free to ask me anything

Checking in! Taking December LSAT (retake), then shooting my application off right after.
EDIT: is it possible to apply for residency after the first year? Just curious!

Is anybody aware of when the first decisions will be most likely to come out? Seems like it could be very soon.

I'm a current 1L here at Iowa. For what my opinion is worth, y'all can hit me up with any questions about law at Iowa.

Sheboygan, what is a typical day or week like as a 1L at Iowa?

It actually depends a good deal on what section you've got. My section, for example, has one class on Mondays so we all just go home and do whatever. Others have three classes a day every day and they're at the law school all the time.
In general, however, most people show up a bit earlier than their first class and perhaps study a bit at their carrel, and then hang around and chat with the other students. Then over lunch people either head up the student lounge or hide in the library, and then class again (if they've got it). And then some folks go home, others hide in the library again.
Some of the student groups here put on various events (usually over the lunch hour) with a ton of free food, so you'll see everyone flocking to those. Thursday nights are bar review and everybody goes to the designated bar to enjoy some adult beverages. Saturdays, of course, are football game days, and PHIDs (Phi Delta Phi) hosts a decently well attended tailgate with alcohol; the law school has a tailgate as well (no booze) with some bomb brats that everybody eats before going to the stadium (or downtown to a bar to watch, if you don't have tickets).
Really though, your week will depend on whether you've got a memo due or if it's a week where your professor cancelled class for whatever reason. Otherwise, all the magic is outside the law school.

Checking in. App marked as received 10/20/15, marked as in review 11/4/15.
From reading in thread and checking on lsn, it looks like admissions decisions are usually pretty quick, generally 10-40 days. So I'm looking forward to having this decision by Christmas.

I was accepted on Wednesday 11/11! Is anybody aware when scholarship amounts are usually sent when accepted this early on? Or possibilities of what those scholarships would be with a 3.71 gpa, 165 lsat, and being a resident of Iowa?

From looking at previous forums it appears some are offered scholarships right away, others after the first of the year. I found a spreadsheet of them but can't find it now, $$ seemed kinda random. I haven't received anything about it yet. Stats 3.93, 163, resident. My pre-law advisor told me I would be competitive for scholarships, I guess we'll see!

Can all of my fellow applicants share their stats and where Iowa ranks among schools they've applied to? That would really help me out as a fellow applicant.

I received a full tuition scholarship offer today! I have a 3.71 and got a 165 on the LSAT. Since this is my overall top choice, I already accepted admission and will be attending Iowa law!

Nice! When did you submit? I was hoping to hear something soon (I've been in review for awhile now).
Edit: nvm, I saw your old post. I submitted in Sept as well. Congrats!
