Re: Iowa Class of 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
Gonna visit campus this weekend. (Not the greatest timing, but it will most likely be my only opportunity) Looks like a sunny 36 degrees with no snow I figure I'll run by and take a quick look at a couple of apartment bldgs and just try to get a general feel for Iowa City.
Any suggestions as to what else I should take a look at while I'm there?

Edit: Well nvm. Plans just fell through. Hopefully my schedule works out sometime in the next couple of months. I got accepted last month/offered a full scholarship. I'm out-of-state and love everything about Iowa Law except the location. My wife grew up in Austin, Texas (where we currently live) and doesn't think she can take the winters. Are you all from Iowa? What would it be like living up there? Is it depressing?

The weather kind of sucks. Iowa City is a cool little town and there is a reasonable amount of stuff to do, but it's nothing compared to what you're probably used to in Austin. You might be in for a bit of a culture shock. I know that it took me some getting used to when I moved here from a major city. That said, I've been in Iowa for 5 years and I've loved it for the most part. If you think that you'll be ok with living in a small-ish town in a rural area, Iowa would probably be a great fit for you.samwilwerding wrote:I got accepted last month/offered a full scholarship. Applied 11/9 - accepted 12/7. Got a very nice note in my acceptance packet - I assume they do this for everyone though. Good luck to everyone

I received acceptance a few hours ago. They mentioned nothing about scholarship. Does it mean there is no scholarship money for me?5135mhs wrote:In a few days before Christmas! Have yet to hear about scholarship.

Acceptance along with the scholarship in the same packet or sent seperately?samwilwerding wrote:I got accepted last month/offered a full scholarship. I received my acceptance on 12/15 (no mention of scholarships) and a separate email about my award on 12/30.

In with a hefty scholarship and research assistant offer.
Interesting twist with Iowa: They want me to accept the offer by April 1… That's the earliest acceptance date I've seen -- before a lot of schools even have their ASWs.

I got the scholarship email about a week after the acceptance email. They eventually both came through the mail too, and I think they came separately.yenisey wrote:Acceptance along with the scholarship in the same packet or sent seperately?samwilwerding wrote:I got accepted last month/offered a full scholarship. Hi Sheboygan, I realize that you are a 1L and the legal clinic is open to students after 3 semesters. I'm curious if you have heard any gripes about the lottery system to get into the clinic? Is it pretty competitive to get in? Are there a bunch of unhappy 2Ls who did not get in? Any idea how many students they take in a given semester? It seems like a great way to get experience but I'm a little dismayed that there is a chance I wouldn't get to work there. Thanks!sheboygan! wrote:I'm a current 1L here at Iowa. For what my opinion is worth, y'all can hit me up with any questions about law at Iowa.

Alabama is by April 1, as well. I assume it's because that way they can accept applicants above their 75ths who may or may not enroll, but still have enough time to offer students closer to the median or 25ths admission and scholarships depending on how many top applicants actually enroll by April 1.yenisey wrote:OSU is also by April 1. Also, checking in because I was accepted this morning via email! Very excited and interested to see about scholarship in the coming weeks

Applied the first week of December? I think it was around then; it was my second round of apps so I took slightly less detailed notes.lnblair wrote:when did you apply? to birdlaw

Why you so excited for Iowa? You have WUSTL.BirdLawExpert wrote:Alabama is by April 1, as well. Fair point! Honestly when I started this whole thing my target school was the University of Houston because of my GPA. Any time I get admitted by a school who's ranked better than #60 I can hardly believe it.yenisey wrote:Why you so excited for Iowa? You have WUSTL.BirdLawExpert wrote:Alabama is by April 1, as well. Hey guys... Unlike any other school Iowa app checker says under decision status "application received" and under mailing it says "thank you for applying" they should have just processed my app yesterday... Did anyone else get this? Does it just mean it is ready for review?

Admitted today via e-mail. The e-mail caught me off guard since the status checker hadn't moved since I went complete two weeks ago and thought it was just another fee waiver email, glad I opened it though.
Not sure what the odds of me actually enrolling are, it'll come down to money. But as a late in the cycle applicant this was my first acceptance which is pretty damn exciting!
