First wave of admissions decisions: 12/8 (status checker updated to "decision made") and email decisions sent 12/10

When your status checker changes to decision made, seat deposit information apparently shows up if you have been admitted (NOTE: this was not the case for the first round of acceptances, but it was for subsequent decision waves).

Checking in! Plan on submitting complete app within the next two weeks.

I just wrote my "Why NDLS?" essay, but not so sure about the DKL statement. Seems to me to be more of a disguised diversity statement. Thoughts?

Good question. There was one thread recently discussing this (link) and someone mentioned that they received an email that indicated that you could submit both a diversity statement and a DKL statement. But if you look at their website here, under optional documents, a diversity statement is not listed. The description for the DKL statement on that page leads me to think it's intended to be a diversity statement that focuses on Notre Dame specifically, rather than a general diversity statement that an applicant might submit to all schools.

if anyone else has any thoughts on this, please add them. I do not plan on submitting one for now because I do not consider myself a diverse applicant, and I am not submitting diversity statements to any other schools.

Checking in.

The DKL essay is a disguised diversity statement, as someone mentioned earlier. The adcomms just changed the name from "diversity essay" to "DKL essay" this cycle.

I haven't actually submitted my application yet  I'm still waiting on LORs to come through, and I'm finishing up my personal statement and Why NDLS statement over the weekend. The lack of a Notre Dame thread for this cycle was making me sad.

Hopefully applying by early next week. Finishing PS, resume, and addenda and still have to write the DKL essay.

Maybe get the LST numbers and the LSN graph up, OP? And a poll would be good too.

Numbers and graph are up now! I should get back to work and will put up a poll tonight. If you have any ideas for a poll you'd really like to see now or in the future, post them here or PM me.

Awesome, thanks!

Maybe a poll concerning something general like where everyone is from.

How much emphasis is placed on optional essays such as the why NDLS and the recently added Different Kind of Lawyer Essay.

Why NDLS is almost mandatory. The school is slightly oppressed with their different kind of lawyer motto. I wrote one and got accepted with a GPA and LSAT slightly under Class of 2018 median. People with higher numbers who didn't write it more likely got wait listed and asked to write one in their wait list letter. (NDLS seems to place a lot of kids on their waitlist lately but this might just be a factor of less applicants in general even though NDLS actually saw an increase, and they are just trying to play it safe.)

Idk about the new topic, it was more of a general diversity statement last year with a different Kind of lawyer motto twist but it sounds the same just with a different title. I wrote one also however I know the Why NDLS paper is much more important.

Write the optional essay - it's pretty much required.

Southern NDLS applicant checking in

What a NDLS rep told me (and I'm sure it applies everywhere) is to write every essay and give them as much material as possible to look at during the application process.

I haven't, and I was just looking on their website from something else and came across this:

"...the Admissions Office uses the Candidate Referral Service (CRS) to identity and grant merit-based fee waivers. To be eligible you must participate in CRS, indicate via LSAC that you intend to enroll for the upcoming academic year, have at least one LSAT score on file, and have your academic transcripts on file. Our CRS searches are updated on a monthly basis."

My transcripts just got uploaded two days ago, so hopefully they haven't already done their CRS search for November. I think I'll qualify for a merit based one.

I received a fee waiver and took the June LSAT. I believe that they also have a free application if you apply directly through their website.
