On the UW campus for work today for the first time. Too bad I don't have time to take a tour or visit the law building. This campus is beautiful though.

Hi All -
Is anyone applying for the Gregoire fellowship? I believe there may have been someone who asked previously about this as well. I'm trying to decide if this is a "white people need not apply" fellowship (which is totally fair in my opinion) - just trying to figure out if I should spend time applying, essentially if they really only mean racial diversity when they refer to diversity. It looks like from their last year's crop of fellows that no white individuals were selected, and I can't find previous years.
However, instructions note: "Applicants may include the following factors in their essay: perseverance against substantial obstacles; socio or economic disadvantage; family or personal adversity; social hardships; disability; prejudice or discrimination; leadership potential; studying or living abroad; foreign language skills; special talents; unique life experiences; or geographic diversity."
Thoughts?

The school has a very broad view of the word "diversity" and will most certainly go out of its way to tell you that diversity is more than just racial diversity.

Does anyone know if there is any advantage to completing the scholarship application on the admitted students portal earlier than the deadline? Or are all scholarship decisions made after March 15th regardless?

As far as I'm aware, all decisions are made after the deadlines, so probably doesn't make too much of a difference. But maybe submitting earlier puts you at the top of the pile.Navyhornguy wrote:Does anyone know if there is any advantage to completing the scholarship application on the admitted students portal earlier than the deadline? I won't be attending UW but for those who are, Seattle is an incredible place to live. I was born and raised here, and currently live about 15 min (walking) from campus, but have lived all over Seattle. If anyone wants advice about neighborhoods to live in or the city in general, feel free to PM me.

In via email yesterday, OOS, above both 75ths.
I feel like a total entitled brat for being annoyed that we have to write a supplemental essay for any scholarship consideration.

Then I'm definitely a brat too. I wrote a whole new PS for them, plus an optional essay!fliptrip wrote:In via email yesterday, OOS, above both 75ths.

I'm a little late to this game, but I was accepted on 1/29 (submitted 1/8). I actually got the news via a friendly call from the dean [of admissions], so that was a pretty unexpected conversation to have on my commute home. I'm glad I have automatic hands-free calls in my car or else I would have just not picked up the phone!
