What kind of stats would one need to be competitive for one of the VLS awards?

I'd suspect if your stats are competitive in the T14 (i.e. above medians), than they'd be competitive for an award. It certainly wouldn't be a waste to apply.WaitersIsland wrote:What kind of stats would one need to be competitive for one of the VLS awards?

I think, if anything, it would show additional interest in Vandy.Tycho wrote:I'd suspect if your stats are competitive in the T14 (i.e. above medians), than they'd be competitive for an award. Really hope Vanderbilt picks up the pace with those decisions this week.

I am going to respectfully disagree. Since it has no binding decision attached to it I don't think it expresses anything more than "I want to come to Vanderbilt (as any application does) and I am willing to put in some more effort to reduce the cost for myself." I think that's the best message the scholly app can send to the adcomms. Pair that with the fact that you could very easily have applied, been admitted, and then decided to apply to the Merit Scholars and it looks less and less like any sort of bump to your app.hopefuljumbo23 wrote:I think, if anything, it would show additional interest in Vandy.Tycho wrote:I'd suspect if your stats are competitive in the T14 (i.e. above medians), than they'd be competitive for an award. TL;DR Don't apply for merit scholars thinking it will bump your app because it shows increased interest. I don't think it does.

Right, as opposed to someone who is thinking: I want to come to your school, but I'm not willing to put in any additional effort (to reduce the cost for myself or not).MOKE4311 wrote:I am going to respectfully disagree. No? I could be wrong, of course. But at the very least, it won't hurt... so if you have an extra two to five hours or so (e.g. it's pouring all day and you're bored, like I am right now) write it up and send it in.

Vanderbilt, if you are reading this, please make a decision on my application soon. I know it's only been four months since I went complete, and that I should be super thrilled about waiting until April for a decision. I mean you're Vanderbilt right? Who wouldn't be thrilled waiting 8 months for a decision from you? But seriously, please send me something soon.
Your friend,
I was patient for the first 4 months and now I think I'm gonna lose it

+100000 though i asked them yesterday to hold a decision until they got my transcript update with fall grades, so I guess I can't complain anymorebdb90 wrote:Vanderbilt, if you are reading this, please make a decision on my application soon. Would not applying for the merit scholarship negatively impact my chances of getting admitted if I am below their LSAT median?
