I mean, of course no one knows for sure, but I'll take a stab at speculating. At this point I would guess that Asha has already made the majority of her admits. Maybe she has a few more to make, but I think it's safe to say that at this point the majority are coming from professor reviews. And professors are pretty much on their own schedule. Some are on top of it and already have gone through their apps, while others will wait until the last minute in March/April. So essentially, no, I doubt it will continue exactly like this. I think we've hit the point in the cycle where Y is done with "waves" and will be shooting out admits as they come in from profs - more like "ripples."

Again, this is nothing more than baseless speculation, so please feel free to disagree with any of it :D
More baseless speculation, but I would guess presumptive admits occur into March. I doubt the Yale AdComms have read past applications that went complete mid-December (wasn't the last admit complete very early Dec?). If Asha's done with her selected admits, that means that those who submit between mid-Dec & Feb are at a disadvantage in the cycle, because of course going to prof review lowers your odds of admittance.
Considering how insistent YLS is about consistent standards throughout entire cycle, I'd bet Asha keeps at least one of her PA 'passes' 'til the very last app is read.
+1 Yeah that's well put. I guess what I meant was whereas during the cycle roughly 80 of the admits are direct from Asha, I bet she's already made at least 50 of them (there are currently 120ish in the Facebook group, so roughly half the class has already been admitted). So the rest of the admits are going to be skewed more towards prof decisions, thus less wave-y and more ripple-y.

Also, I know they say profs are reading apps from "early fall" and on. But I would highly doubt many of the pre Xmas admits were from prof review. These are most likely the can't miss candidates that Asha doesn't really have to think about (the few Rhodes/Marshalls/Mitchells and such they get every year, etc.) I'm just having trouble believing that not only are they a) getting sets of applications out to profs before Xmas, but that b) 3 different profs are already reviewing their 80ish apps. Not saying it can't happen, just much more likely these are Asha admits.

ETA: Also, saying that admits from Xmas on are skewed more heavily towards prof review than Asha doesn't mean applying later would put you at a disadvantage. Those types of apps are so rare and there is no set number she can admit (that I know of). So when they pop up, no matter when they went complete, they are in no matter what.
To your ETA: valid. And I've just decided that when I pen my memoirs on my law school application angsts & triumphs, I shall title it 'Less Wave-y and More Ripple-y.'
:D :D :D

Hopefully you guys can help me out on this....I recently found out I'm a semi-finalist for the Fulbright Fellowship. If I am lucky enough to get into Yale, I should have no problem getting a year deferral. But, I was wondering if emailing admissions to let them know would hurt or help my chances at admission at this point.

Just coming back onto TLS to say good luck to everyone and to give heart to the late appliers. I was pretty skeptical about the whole "all applications are treated equally no matter when the come in" line, but I really do believe admissions sticks to it. (Note: I only have anecdotal knowledge of myself and a few other late appliers so take it for what its worth) I applied last day of 2015 cycle. (Oh that 250) I wouldn't recommend it on the stress, but it is possible!

Best of luck!

Someone posted a similar question in the Harvard thread - so my same response to you :) First off, congratulations! I had the same dilemma last year and my law school advisor was fairly firm that I should not tell them anything until I actually received the Fulbright. Her reasoning was that it sets an odd precedent if you tell them you're making other plans for next year (like they could then waitlist/ding you knowing that you could apply again with a stronger app), and it could be potentially awkward if you are not chosen for the Fulbright (like the school wonders well why didn't you get the fellowship?).

That said, congrats again! Do what you feel is best. I waited until actually receiving it to notify any schools. And good luck with both your Fulbright and your law school apps!

Thank you so much for your help! I thought that waiting might be the right decision, but I wanted to make sure.

Perhaps the first time TLS has (intentionally) caused me to laugh aloud.

Lost my phone and will be out of town for a while - so won't be able to access my voicemail for quite some time.

Do I need to change my contact information or can I just expect an email if I'm accepted?

Harvard Law just gifted me a signed book by one of its professors!

... published by Yale. The irony is too much, and I want Asha to reject me early so I can give up the dream of landing an academia job fresh out of law school.

Finally reached a satisfactory version of my Yale 250. Will ask my advisor to proofread before sending it in, but I guess it's time to join this thread.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
