Oh I am 100% certain that a certain school's adcoms know who I am if they ever look at TLSbenwyatt wrote:You did out yourself pretty hard a couple months ago.whacka wrote: Yeah I'm not concerned about being identified by the people who post ITT, I'm more concerned with future classmates knowing I'm a big loser who has a bunch of posts on TLS, which they'd be able to gether from piecing together like two readily apparent details about me

Re: c/o 2019 Applicant Compendium (2015 - 2016)
For the record, there are a number of posters here who have reported the adcomms at their schools commenting on their TLS posting. (I want to say 3-4 have mentioned this.) Generally that hasn't been negative, although one person did have someone complain about what he said (about jobs/CSO I think).
But posting like a normal person isn't going to affect your admissions prospects at all. I think adcomms look here primarily to see things like what schools are their competition and what people's experiences with a school have been.
If you're such an ass here as to damage your admissions prospects, you were probably going to shoot yourself in the foot somewhere else along the line anyway.

I am more just not wanting other people to know everything about me, especially with facebook class groups going up now. I'm not all that worried about adcoms, but I don't want something I say being taken as I am not serious about some school.doublehoohopeful wrote:This is what I thought before hearing the opposite from a regular poster a few minutes ago.A. It does us good. Our generation shares too damn much online. We need to learn boundaries. Not everyone in the world needs to know everything about us, and we need to stop being so insecure that we don't feel relevant if we don't share all aspects of our life with strangers.theugg wrote:Kinda depressing that we have to watch what we say on this website. Yeah, I retract some of what I said. I still think most people aren't going to run into problems based on the average posting here, but obviously that situation raises concerns (although we don't know the ultimate outcome yet).doublehoohopeful wrote:This is what I thought before hearing the opposite from a regular poster a few minutes ago.A. But people do need to remember that what they post here is public (lounge posts are not strictly public and aren't on google, although there's nothing stopping adcomms from registering an account here). That was kind of my intent in mod-ly butting in.

I just want to go on the record, and state that I have only applied to law schools where I can honestly see myself attending. I have some preferences now, but they're based solely on online info. I'll actually visit schools and talk to people there before I make my decisions.

Just an fyi for those who are worried about posts being visible to adcomms: even if you delete your posts, they can still be read via google cache. It would obviously take a lot more work for adcomms to find them, but if there is anything you write which you really really want to vanish, make sure to find its cache and ask google to update it once you've deleted the post.

Sorry, that was probably me trying to fix the thread title, which leads to this mod request:Muiraquita wrote:So... some of the school OP's are really messed up now... Such as UCLA now being Vandy...
edit: nvm, thanks Polk
If you are deleting all your shit, would you please not delete the OPs of school-specific application threads? It leads to the thread effectively vanishing, and those are often useful threads.
Thanks.

Re: c/o 2019 Applicant Compendium (2015 - 2016)
Some schools require it (Emory and Indiana come to mind) it depends on the phrasing of the questions. But, I think disclosing something like this is very unlikely to hurt you while failing to disclose could be seen as a serious issue moving forward.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
