Re: Columbia Reserve
I believe that, for all intents and purposes, Reserve = Waitlist. I think the only real differences are that applicants aren't "ranked" as they sometimes are on waitlists, and that there are several rounds of reserve that one can go through.

Has anyone not heard anything? I applied and went complete in early December and still haven't heard back.

Babs, I went complete late December and haven't heard anything. I don't know if that helps.

Re: Columbia Reserve
Based on TLS posts, it seems like Columbia is cutting things off at 172.
Have any 171s been accepted RD?

Right there with ya. And a very similar GPA to boot.

Re: Columbia Reserve
I think it is pretty much impossible for Columbia to move their median higher than 172 unless a bunch of applicants just decide to start choosing them over Harvard and Yale. They are probably holding off on the 169,170,171 applicants until they have a better picture of how many they need to admit from that group.

Re: Columbia Reserve
Uh, this is eerie. Because I have the exact same thing going on, too. Complete for forever at NYU, with just two complete notices to show for it. Reserve at Columbia yesterday. Chicago acceptance today.Arbit wrote:I'm in exactly the same situation. Eerie.i'm in at chicago, haven't heard from either columbia or nyu (though i suspect there's a reserve letter from columbia sitting in my mailbox right now)
Does anyone know if this is standard CCN behavior? It seems so... odd.

Re: Columbia Reserve
That's interesting. I was accepted to NYU way back in December, I was accepted to Chicago at the end of January, and I got my Reserve letter from Columbia today. Based on the data points in this thread, I can't see an identifiable pattern...

Re: Columbia Reserve
Add me as a 172'er on reserve. Of course, I have crap grades relative to everyone else, well below the 25th percentile. Here's hoping they're fishing for LSAT and not GPA when they open up the reserve file.

Got the reserve letter today, too. Frankly I'm pleasantly surprised: with a 168 on the LSAT (3.87 GPA), I figured I was toast.

Re: Columbia Reserve
170/3.92 and still waiting to hear from Columbia. I was also accepted at NYU. I don't get the pattern. I'm in Manhattan today, so I'm going to get my hungover ass up there and demand some answers, get what's coming to me, etc.
Or just look around the campus.

With a little bit of mischief, I have discovered there is a second and third reserve. I don't know what they mean.

Re: Columbia Reserve
Basically, second reserve means you're really patient, and third means you're really REALLY patient. After they review the first reserves in May, those who weren't accepted or dinged will be notified that they have been placed on second reserve. There's another round of notifications in June or July, at which point some people will be given the lovely option of electing to go on third reserve. I believe that third reserve notifications can go right up until when school starts. With a little bit of mischief, I have discovered there is a second and third reserve. I don't know what they mean.
