Top Law Schools

Can someone please explain what this is? I've been using context clues from other people's posts to get the gist of it, but I just want to confirm. Tips for the timing of sending one? Any success stories? Comments?

So as far as sending such a thing, what is the exact protocol? How long should it be, who to send it to, do we need to preface the email with anything?

Sorry, I'm a senior in undergrad pretty much on my own for these things. Been accepted to 8/11 schools, but am considering doing this for my top choice.

You typically only send it once you've been wait listed / held. Thus the continued interest.

I've never sent one so I'm not the best person to answer your other questions about the details.
