I'm not sure yet. I applied to quite a few schools and Penn State was one of the first to get back to me. I'm going to wait a bit to hear back from other schools and then weigh out my options.

Anybody get their admissions packet yet? Got accepted with a full ride over a month ago and I still haven't gotten an admission folder or scholarship info yet.

I'm just curious, has anyone applied to the State College campus too? This incoming class will be the first one with two, completely separated schools. I assume this thread is for the Dickinson school in Carlisle?

Good luck! I was accepted to both about a month ago. Did you apply to both or just State College?

I'm assuming this is for both, but I thought I'd share an experience I had recently. I've been admitted to Dickinson Law and just came back from an admitted student event. I'm still waiting for Penn State Law to give me a decision, but I'm about 99% sure I'll be accepted. I think there's a lot of questions out there about Penn State and Dickinson's recent split (even though they are still both run under Penn State). The incoming Fall 2015 will be the first completely separate from each other. I have to say I was really impressed by Dickinson Law. The town of Carlisle is really nice. There are so many opportunities because it is the county seat and Harrisburg is so close (some thing State College doesn't have). With Dickinson you get both the Dickinson name (3rd oldest law school in the country) and the Penn State name. You also get a lot of opportunities for experience with the proximity to Harrisburg, Philly, DC, etc. They're keeping the class small and capping it at 75. I think my biggest thing was that it felt far more professional than State College and that whole undergrad college kid/obsessed with sports feel that exists in State College. Honestly, I'm not sure what is going to happen to the rankings. I don't know if both Penn State Law and Dickinson Law will drop or one will go up or down and that really worries me. I'm not even sure if U.S. News is looking at both and ranking both when the new rankings come out. Please feel free to criticize what I just said or ask questions of me or whatever. I'd like to have a discussion with people about this because after attending their Admitted Student event this weekend I can honestly say I'm considering it very heavily (my other number one choice is Temple).

I only visited Dickinson, and I too was impressed. On my tour they also mentioned internships in DC, which is only 2 hours away. The faculty was very nice as well. I spoke with two who had open offices while I walked by and spoke to each for 5-10 minutes.
Personal reasons are causing me to push back law school a year, but Dickinson certainly impressed me and I will be considering them again next year.

Rankings are irrelevant. These are the only numbers you should be concerned about, and they're not very good

The concern is still legit...wondering if one campus will have drastically higher or lower employment numbers now that they split.

Pequod wrote:Damn. Down twenty spots. And splitting the school up for the fall's incoming class. PSU is looking like more of a gamble every day.

It was #76 two or three years ago, and it was way too high at 51. Nonetheless, this shouldn't dictate whether or not you go there.
