Just because T14 schools have also been hurt by the economy doesn't justify Wake Forest's poor placement.

You do realize that many law students and attorneys have no interest in big law, don't you? I was in NYC for a matinee showing of Kinky Boots yesterday. I HATE NYC and no amount of money would make me want practice law there. For those who want to, and do, practice small or mid law, gov't, DA/PD etc., Wake is an excellent school to attend, especially if you want to be in, or remain in, the mid-Atlantic region. Since there are several Big Law firms in the area, those that aspire to work in those firms have that opportunity.withoutapaddle wrote:Jay Shively,
Serious questions... Are you a graduate of Wake Forest Law? Have you ever attended a class? If not, how can you possibly know whether or not the law education at Wake Forest is good or not. Wake Forest Law only placed 56% of their students into JD required positions. Only 13% got big law. Which means a large number of your graduates moved back in with their parents... I mean roomates.
What sets Wake apart is its small (usually 40 student) sections and small class sizes which allow unfettered access to the professors. For the size of the school, it has many clinical offerings. Your attempt to call out Mr. Shively is embarrassing and demonstrates you are not Wake material, and probably not law school material. If you want NYC or Philly big law, Wake is not for you.

Unsolicited increase from 35k a year to full scholly via email. Makes things interesting.

It was an email. I'm planning on withdrawing now, I got another scholarship offer today. I'll withdraw this weekend, so that one of TLSers can take my seat and my $$$. Good luck everyone!!Wattz wrote:Was it in an email or letter?LawsRUs wrote:Initial offer $60k. Full tuition offer today, unsolicited. I'm honored, but am not sure I'll take it. Wake loves moi XD
I really like the location of Wake. Despite the drop, I still really like the school and the programs that they have at the school. I have no doubt that their rankings will go up again.

I asked 2 serious questions. How does that make me uninformed? I did not even state information or an opinion. What does the dean being female have to do with anything? And who said anything about the t14? Who said anything about being bullet proof for jobs? (Although it is undeniable that a t14 does a better job at allowing their students access to meaningful employment than non-t14 schools)FamilyLawEsq wrote:
Yes, it is. And by the way, Dean Reynolds is female and well-regarded. Now get out of this thread in that 1) you (Squed) are misinformed; and 2) you add nothing meaningful to the thread. Now go visit the Vale and learn that a T-14 education does not make you bullet-proof from this economy.

Man, I'm close to a full scholly but I'm already committed so I'm thinking they won't offer one. =\ if I fit their numbers.

My initial offer was 31k/yr. Would love to get bumped up without having to formally appeal. Numbers are 167/3.3

Re: Wake Forest C/O 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
Squed, I incorrectly attributed Without a Paddle's comments to you, for that I apologize. First, WAP called out Wake's Dean of Admission, Jay Shively, and asked if he even attended a class at Wake and how he could possibly know about Wake graduates' employment opportunities. Mr. Shively drops in from time to time to share information with potential students which is invaluable to the admission process. This transparency is rare for a school. Then when a current student posts Dean Reynolds response to the drop in the rankings, WAP says that when the Wake students are living in the basement looking for a 30-40K job the other Wake graduates secured, that "he" (the Dean) will be no where in site (sic) because he made his money." I felt the need to correct WAP, no more no less. Dean Reynolds is female and bleeds black and gold. If you go to Wake, she will know your name. So when you asked why would a current student "cackle" at WAP's misinformed diatribe, this is why. Again, my apologies. What specifically do you want to know about Wake?SquedTheScholar wrote:I asked 2 serious questions. How does that make me uninformed? I did not even state information or an opinion. Would love to hear from someone from the office regarding what factors they are looking for in deciding whether to issue these unsolicited scholarship bumps to certain applicants. Alternatively, any fellow posters have an idea?

Same question. I've seen a couple examples of people with $20K being bumped to a fully unsolicited. Meanwhile, I sent in the reconsideration form with multiple $40K + offers from peer schools and only got bumped from $20K to $25K.ncstudent1202 wrote:Would love to hear from someone from the office regarding what factors they are looking for in deciding whether to issue these unsolicited scholarship bumps to certain applicants. It stinks because Wake is my top choice, but I may have to go elsewhere because of cost.

That's what I'm struggling with as well. If it was just LSAT/GPA, you'd think those with the bigger awards/better numbers would get bumped before some of these others. I am close to a full tuition scholarship and could definitely use the bump. Wondering if it's worth shooting them an e-mail...cal2013 wrote:
