Do a CL search for 650c and see what pops up.
Cool, thank you so much for the tip. I'm not really sure what road bikes I've tried in the past, but I really didn't fit them. One of the better bikes I've had was a folding one because the frame was so tiny. being under five feet makes little things like that hard, but there are certainly ways around it. I would LOVE it if I could find a road bike that fits. I really like how lightweight they are.
No problem. Being under 5 feet, you'll probably be looking for a 43 - 47 cm frame. I'm 6'5", so I often have the opposite problem when searching for bike stuff on CL (62cm frame).

Happy Hunting!

i suppose a folding bike would be useful if you lived/took your bike in densely packed areas (like a metro train). but esp. for commuting youll want something a bit more suited to the task

yeah, I had the folding bike for commuting before. It was heavy and sort of awkward though, so I sold it when I switched jobs.

I have have lived in Davis on and off for almost 20 years and have the same beater bike I had in undergrad. If you're forgetful about locking your bike like me, it's nice to know that no one's going to take off with it while you're in class. Problem is, now I'm so attached to the wreck, I worry about her like she did cost 1K :D .

Glad to see another person here considering McGeorge. Davis is still not looking at my app. I despair.

Yay got an email from Davis tentatively offering me 9000 in grant money. Its a bit less than I was hoping for but hey not gonna complain about almost 10K in free money. That and I havent heard anything from any other school.

I got the exact same thing. Wonder if that's a standard amount they offer.

This was given as a result of submitting Need Access and FAFSA, not a merit scholarship. I didn't get a merit scholarship, so my acceptance stuff was just standard.

I'll probably be joining all of you in Davis next year... I just haven't been to open about it because I am still hoping for Boalt, so I'm delaying all decision making until the dream is dead. This is also why I will probably go to the April ASW instead of the one in March, but I think I'll be making a trip out once my plans are finalized to start finding a place to live.

But thanks to everyone who has been giving out such good information!

Ok, still browsing the admitted student site. Apparently they have a "prom" for the grad students. Interesting...

has anyone gotten a acceptance to davis recently...say last week?
I have an unfounded feeling that they've handed out all of the acceptances and are just making the rest of us wait in agony until they "evaluate" all of the rejections.

Last year they sent out a lot of decisions - of all kinds - at the end of March. So there is hope...for some of you. For me, not so much. What are your stats, and when did you apply? I think if you applied early and they didn't already reject you that's a quasi-good sign!

I went complete the week after. They take their sweet time.

I don't think anyone can fault them for being numbers sluts, and I think part of why it takes so bloody long is that they actually do look at your application. So I am trying to keep the faith.

Congrats again, gtr! Very inspiring. Did you work really hard on your PS, or do you feel there was something else that they liked about your app?

it was most likely my letters of recommendations

i knew my professors really well, & pretty sure they thought highly of me

i dont objectively know how good my ps was, but i touched upon a unique family situation (political refugees) in my statement.

I think Davis has a nice-o-meter they use to scan people's apps;-) - another reason mine's going to end up in the recycling bin (this being Davis, after all). How else to explain all the good vines in this thread?

You sound so sweet, and I am sure you are going to enjoy your time here a lot. It's a great place to live.

Az,

If you got into Davis (which I would be pissed if you didnt), would the cooperative parent childcare they offer you be of help? By the way I think this is the most forward thinking concept ever - parents take turn babysitting at the childcare center while others are in class.

I bet if we all ended up going we'd all take turns babysitting your kids too - they look adorable!

Right now I'm leaning towards Davis (barring any surprise offers), and I'm just excited because its a dog friendly town!
