Checking in. Reverse Splitter. Not sure how long I'll wait. I live about 30mins away from the LS so worst case scenario in a last minute admittance is I commute from home 1L year. That really could be a bad scenario though :!:

Guys, I am really scared of the debt. That letter pretty much said "You get no $$$."

Using an online calculator, NU for 3 years would equate to $2,300 per month in loan payments for 10 years.

Holy hell.

I think it's actually worse if you look at lst. Said in another way-don't do NU without a decent amount of $.

Sticker is definitely more than that

Yeah, for a 5 year plan I got closer to $6,000/month at sticker which was why I withdrew.

I'd definitely be doing that 10 year plan if I got in. Possibly even the 20 year plan and then increase my payments gradually. I don't know many lawyers who are all paid up after 5 years.

Leigh (and others):

I am a partner at a large Chicago-based firm. I joined the site to better understand what my child was going through during the application process (full disclosure: child was accepted to NU and G'town). It is torture to be sure and NU's process seems particularly odd. But, it is what it is.

May I offer some thoughts? Taking Leigh as an example, she has scholarship money available at some fine law schools--as good a reputation as NU?--maybe not, but what you have to consider is whether the NU degree is worth say, turning down $90k in scholarships. I look at it this way: If you go to a respected law school with the intent to do the best you can do and strive to graduate in the top 15% (for example), you will be able to find work. The truth is that there are only a few schools that essentially guarantee employment regardless of how you do (Yale, Harvard, maybe one or two more). I could tell you stories of many T-10 students who can't find work because they came out of school with B averages.

So, what should you do? My view is you should take your substantial scholarships, work very hard in law school and come out of law school equally educated but with a debt burden that is significantly lightened.

All the best.

I (and probably the others) appreciate that perspective Blackstone. Really, I do.

I guess right now for me, there's nothing to do but wait. BUT I am fairly certain that if I get off one of my two waitlists or both, I will get no $$$ from those schools (NU and Univ of Chicago).

NU has been my dream from the start -- for multiple reasons I don't need to explain and bore you with here. But realizing that being pulled off the waitlist means getting zero money is starting to really set in.

I'm comfortable and happy and well-fed by Loyola, on the other hand, which Blackstone referred to when he said 90K in scholarship.

I'd like to think that we are all go-getters and we will strive to do well regardless if we are going to the #1 ranked school or the #101 ranked school.

So, basically what I am trying to say is that I agree with Blackstone. While I'll probably ride out my two waitlists (doesn't change what city I'll live in anyways!), I don't put much stock into going to NU at this point.

I guess it's not really true that mo' money mo' problems, eh?

NU is a fantastic school, but worth sticker? No way.
This attitude is probably what landed me on the WL. Oh wait, never mind that was my pedestrian LSAT.

Checking in.

Thanks to Blackstone for perspective.

The scholarship offers I have are from G'Town and GWU, and the cost of living in D.C. means NU would only be slightly more expensive at sticker. My background and WE makes NU a much better fit for me. Going to hang on until I at least hear back from Cornell.

No, just the confirmation page after you submit saying your responses were recorded or something to that effect. I'm not expecting an email.

I know we are purely speculating but how many people do you guys think are on the waitlist? Johann's letter said 20-25% are admitted off it. So do we think there are like 100 total and 20-25 get in or half that or what? It would be silly for them to have too large a waitlist.

I thought it was "20-25% of the class" is admitted off the WL. So if the class is'200' 40-50 people came off the WL. There could be many more actually on the WL

Just checked my letter and I quote:
"I can tell you that we have admitted approximately 20%-25% of the candidates on the waiting list during recent years."

Yay! Thanks. I was going to go digging for it but I'm glad you found it. So that was 17 people off the waitlist (that posted onto TLS -- of course there may be others who got in but didn't post). LSN shows 18 people last year who were WL, Accept.
This makes me think they keep the waitlist just around 100...

I think probably less than half of the people who apply are actually on TLS. But I also think TLSers are a little bit more competitive and so we might disproportionately fill the WL
