There's been a lot of waitlist talk in the Applicants thread this year, so I wanted to create our own space for discussion. I was waitlisted in late February and just visited the campus and fell in love. Anyone else in this boat?

+1. Exact same story. Just visited last week and I know beyond all doubt this is where I want to go in the fall!

I have sent in several LOCI and I usually ask for confirmation in the email. UMich is probably the friendliest Admissions Office by far, and they're really good about responding quickly.

Checking in. Waitlisted Feb. LOCI sent and confirmed. Have not visited... wondering if this will hurt me. But have no time due to work. Classes finished today I think. Will have to wait until June to visit.

ktrey, you've sent several LOCI? What do you say in all of them. I wrote a Why X in my app. I wrote my LOCI when I learned my thesis was accepted in my grad program. Wanted to send one earlier but couldn't think of anything substantive enough.

I have sent in three LOCI since February. My first one was a general letter (kind of a more specific version of Why Mich), then I wrote about a job-related update, and then I just submitted one to reflect on my recent visit from a few weeks ago. These three were each about a month apart. Don't think I'll be sending any more letters though - I've said all there is to say!

Got the WL email today. Gives me a good reason to visit Ann Arbor, I guess.

Was on the WL last year, made it off the list but went elsewhere due to a better scholarship offer. (somewhat regretting that now and may transfer). But keep on UMich and Dean Z - keep up with the LOCI. I wrote one a month, kept in contact, talked with FinAid about options, etc. I was below both medians and not URM so it does happen if you want to go there.

It was around July 4th - (How American of them, right?).

Not to be a downer but when itbhappenedbisnt super relevant they are hoping they will have a class after 2nd deadline. If not. They pull from us. Only reason to pull any later is if someone withdraws. Which could happen anytime. So if not the 3rd week of June then there is no predictability.

A minor omission on my part, the day before I was offered admissions I told them I was considering (not that I was, but that I was considering) withdrawing from the WL b/c of my admissions w/ scholarship to my current school. So this may have been why they admitted me at that time.

WL on Friday, withdrew today. I feel honored just by not getting dinged--looks like there are many applicants on the WL with much more impressive qualifications. Good luck all.

Seems like a brief update has been made on their website:

"Our first deposit deadline of April 30 has now passed. We are currently processing the deposits we've received and determining the extent of our immediate waitlist needs. Our first priority is to make sure our summer section is full, and we anticipate making up to six offers for summer only. Orientation for summer will begin on May 27 (the Tuesday after Memorial Day); if you are interested in being considered for summer, you are welcome to reach out and let us know! We will contact everyone we're considering for admission by telephone, unless an applicant has provided other instructions. If we make an offer, candidates will have two weeks to consider before making a commitment.

We will keep you updated on this page throughout the summer waitlist season about our plans and progress. We are well aware that participating in a waitlist can be a very trying process, and we truly appreciate your patience. As always, you are welcome to contact us with any questions or additional information, by email to law.jd.admissions@umich.edu or by telephone at 734.764.0537."

On a lark I logged in to the status checker today and see I got a May 7th update, did anyone else get one as well? Not really sure if that's good or bad news with a status update but no email contact...
