Does anyone have any insight into the likelihood of a part-time program applicant getting off the Preferred Waitlist? My assumption is that this is probably harder than for full-time applicants because there are fewer slots, Georgetown has the best part-time program, and the individuals that applied part-time probably already live and work in DC and wouldn't be likely to decline after being accepted. I'm feeling desperate here.

Do I have any hope of getting in off the Preferred Waitlist as a part-timer??

Keep in mind that Georgetown's application lets people choose "full-time" "part-time" or "both." For the people that want to go to GULC at all costs, they might put down "both" and then get admitted to the PT program. As the cycle goes on and they get other offers, perhaps they begin to rethink doing GULC PT.

Furthermore, a lot of PTers are a lot less ranking-savvy than the run of the mill TLS user. GWU gives out a lot more scholarship money for its PTers than does GULC (who gives out none), and a small merit scholarship may cause someone to bail on the number one program in the country for the number two program or number four program. A lot of PTers in DC are using the JD to boost their resume, so the name recognition really doesn't matter as much.

Thank you both for your input. Seems like reading the tea leaves is pretty difficult when it comes to PTers. Thanks for including your numbers, collegebum1989. Mine are 166 & 3.37. I've got several years of significant work experience in a prestigious government job that's highly relevant and other strong softs. I got my hopes up a little too high though and ended up being a pretty crushed after receiving the waitlist email from Dean Cornblatt.

As an aside, as twenty mentioned, GW seems to offer some decent scholarships to PT students. To my surprise, I was accepted by them very quickly after applying (less than a week), but I'm yet to hear anything about financial aid. It's been about a month since they admitted me. Do you guys think I should send an email to the financial aid department to inquire about this and perhaps make a request for aid?

I also thought that it would be impossible to be pulled off of the waitlist for the part-time program for all of the same reasons as you. However, I think a total of 3-4 people have been accepted so far from both lists (if I recall correctly). From lsn, I've also noticed that a couple of people applied to part-time program at GULC as well as FT at some other institutions such as Duke. I hope that encourages you not to give up and remain positive.

Thanks! Surprisingly, I was offered a FT slot, but I'm really unwilling to give up my current employment. I didn't realize that there are only 46 PT spots. Here's to hoping something opens up eventually and I see you this fall. Congrats again.

....one more question. I just noticed you applied ED to GW. Does that confer a full-tuition scholarship like it does for the FT program? If so, I'm kind of kicking myself for not applying ED myself.

All, I've been super busy lately so I haven't been on here- but I have elected to attend full-time elsewhere so I've given up my part-time spots at Gtown and GW- hoping you very deserving folks get them!

Yes, GWU's ED program offers a full scholarship for both FT and PT applicants. It's really an excellent opportunity especially since their tuition + COA is so high.

How long ago were you admitted into the FT program? Maybe the admissions office might be willing to let you enroll PT if you speak with them to request this. Especially since GULC started as a PT program for gov't "employees". You've already been admitted, so their decision should be an easy one.
