I applied to BYU yesterday. They are high on my list. Anyone else apply to the Y?

I just applied too. BYU seems like a great law school for the price they charge, and I wouldn't have to move away from Provo.

Interviewed with the dean and she offered me full tuition. Tempting...

I just got an interview invitation. What kind of questions did the dean ask, or was it basically just a meeting to let you know you got in?

Tweed, I just got in after an interview yesterday, and it was pretty chill. A few questions and then she made the offer.

Rise'n'shout, congrats on getting in! I just had my interview and got in, and they offered me a full scholarship. I think I'll probably go here unless I get a really great offer from a higher ranked school. Are you looking at anywhere else, or do you think you'll go here?

Tweed - Thanks, you too! I'm in the same boat, scholly-wise, so the only thing that I can see making me even consider elsewhere is substantial money from UTexas, and even that's pretty unlikely. We might be classmates!

Wahoo! I got in as well. The interview was actually quite pleasant. So far I am in at U of A and U of U, but am pretty much sold on BYU.

Just had the interview with dean Mumford, and was accepted. Very pleasant, really nice lady. I was curious for those who have been interviewed, was scholarship discussed at all? None was mentioned for me, so was curious if that meant no dice, or if scholly info was coming later.

My scholarship offer was in the interview. She threw it in at the end almost as an afterthought. It was confirmed in the mail about a week later.

I was recently waitlisted. Does anyone know any specifics about byu's waitlist? Byu has one of the higher matriculation percentages of accepted applicants (in 2010 they were second only to Yale and the latest stats showed about 65% attended). Does anyone know if they generally keep a proportional waitlist or is it as large as the average school where the matriculation percentage is in the 20s?

Kind of confused about this interview process... During/after(?) your interview with the local religious leader, I understand that there's another interview with a BYU Chaplain? Is that the Dean, herself?

I wouldn't think so - there's a chaplain for the school (James Slaughter, https://deanofstudents.byu.edu/contact), who I'm guessing is the guy to contact.

This is probably due to the idea of the LDS culture that if you apply to and are accepted to BYU and you turn it down, it would be like turning down a church calling. Many have trouble separating the school (which is a business) from the church.

Are you kidding me? IDK if this is just trolling. In case you are actually serious - the high matriculation is more likely due to the fact that the tuition is so low relative to the expected return of the degree as well as the many appealing aspects some people find in living in a community of people of similar beliefs and dispositions (this can definitely be painted as a negative but the fact remains that this is a factor is often weighed when people are deciding where to live/work/study).

As to the original question, don't count yourself out just because of the high matriculation. For many LDS applicants BYU serves as a target or safety school. They will often times get into T-14 and open a spot for people on the WL. The high matriculation rate cited is for Undergrad the Law school matriculation rate is under 20%

I read the letter BYU sent my BIL after he turned down their acceptance. It was a funny read. It was if the school took it personally. You can present all the cost/work/study info you want, but you cannot deny the cultural influence. I would be very interested to see the %%% of law applicants from the BYU undergrad vs the Non-BYU. Once you get complacent to the happy valley mind set it is hard for many to get out of it. They fear it almost. Then use Utah as a secondary fall back/safety school.

Unless I'm missing something, BYU's 509 report for 2013 has 139 attending out of 217 offers - about 64%.

Waitlisted in January after the December LSAT results came back and encouraged to retake it in June. I did and made a big leap upward, so I'm hopeful, but it's the end of July and I still haven't heard anything. Anyone with recent acceptance or rejections?
