Congratulations! Is Seattle a top choice for you?Icecold62 wrote:In with 23k a year
Congratulations! Seattle is currently one of my top choices. I am very interested in practicing law in the Seattle area. What draws you to it?dmitriygolos wrote:Accepted last week! Seattle is probably my top choice, anyone else?
Congratulations, toostressed! Are you from Seattle or wanting to practice there? I'm considering the open house. What about you?toostressed wrote:Seattle is also my top choice at the moment! Anyone else attending the open house on the 28th?
The UAA satellite is a great program for those hoping to stay or live in Alaska. I'm surprised SU is the only one doing this. Are you from Alaska? Do you know how many it places in Alaska? Is passage of the WA bar sufficient to practice law in AK?toostressed wrote:I've actually never been to Seattle, but I want to practice in Alaska. SU's Alaska summer program with UA is what's pulling me in their direction (despite having better $ offers elsewhere). Next weeks open house will be my first visit, so I'm super excited to see the city. I'm dragging my little sis along and trying to convince her to move with me since she's applying to med school and UW seems to have a decent program. What about you?
No, I'm not from AK and I'm not sure how many students they place, but I've been planning on moving to Anchorage for the last 5 years. I'm hoping to use SU's reputation in Anchorage to help with finding a job after graduation. SU has a lot of practicing alumni in Anchorage. As far as the bar; AK has their own, and reciprocity requires at least 5 years of practice, so I plan on taking that instead of WA's. The only thing that sucks is that I wanted to get involved with the Innocence Project NW during the year, but its at UW.follywood wrote: The UAA satellite is a great program for those hoping to stay or live in Alaska. I live in Seattle. Interestingly, I only saw Sullivan Hall for the first time today. SU's campus is small, compared to other Seattle colleges. The neighborhood is a busy one, rarely dull, with quite an active and cultured population. However, I am still undecided whether I will stay here, but, if I do, I'll go to SU. I have been meeting and talking with practicing alumni, and all of them are pleased with their education and training.
As for your sister, UW has one of the top medical schools in the nation. USNWR ranks it #2 for Primary Care and #12 for Research. If UW is the state's flagship school, UW Medicine is its most prized darling. You'll see its buildings all over the city.
Do you know whether you'll be sitting in on Torts or Property during the Open House?
What about AK attracts you? I admire your drive to live there. I've never been, but I've always wanted to see it.toostressed wrote:No, I'm not from AK and I'm not sure how many students they place, but I've been planning on moving to Anchorage for the last 5 years. Anyway, thanks for the info on UW! I'll definitely use it to try and sell her on at least applying there. She's got Hopkins and GW dreams (and the numbers to make it), but Ive lived in both Baltimore and DC before; its not really a place I want her to be alone. I'm far more protective of her than our parents. Plus, where you go to medical school isn't as important as it is for law school. Hell, I dated a guy who graduated from a DO school and was doing a neurosurgery fellowship at Hopkins. Its all about the boards and residency for them...lucky bastards.
Oh, and I want to sit in on the Torts class. If you end up going, what will you choose?
That's good to know. Do you know how much they are, by any chance?bamboo_cutter wrote:There are parking garages adjacent to the campus - you can park for up to 24 hours.
Parking in that area? $4 an hour, or so. Careful going down hill from there town gets worse as you go.follywood wrote:That's good to know. Do you know how much they are, by any chance?bamboo_cutter wrote:There are parking garages adjacent to the campus - you can park for up to 24 hours.
You're right that, farther down the hill toward downtown, street parking gets more expensive. But when I parked on 12th yesterday, I paid only $1.50/hour. Some of the back streets require no payment.Icecold62 wrote:Parking in that area? $4 an hour, or so. Careful going down hill from there town gets worse as you go.
