Since most admissions offices close for winter break, does this mean we are waiting until January until we hear back from schools?

The fact that admission offices are closed for winter breaks, I think.

The fact that many have not received decisions yet and most schools' winter breaks have started.

"This" is "not having heard back so far from a school." Insert it into the sentence and it's pretty clear.

It seemed pretty straightforward to me what OP was saying. And I think he/she may unfortunately be right.

Ah. Guess that makes sense. I think there are still a few days left before folks close up the office for Christmas.

For what it's worth, Houston sent out two waves of pre-Christmas December admittances last year.

A lot of schools still have this week. For schools with extra long academic winter breaks, I don't think admissions offices close the entire time. I think this week will be a big one, and then (with maybe a few exceptions the following Monday) it'll be off to 2014.

Yeah, T14 seems to have a lot of movement the 3rd week of December.

Plus releasing admittances (and denials for that matter) before weekends and holidays generally means that more of the questions that students have will be answered by the student finding the answer elsewhere (school website; here, God forbid) than by having the students flood the office with calls.

I also can't help but feeling as though...

(and I realize this is a sweeping commentary and can vary based on your numbers, application strength, school you're applying to, etc.)

Most of us are going to have to wait until January regardless. This cycle is going at a snail's pace.

Yes, except for a snail's pace has never, to my knowledge, caused holiday-ruining levels of anxiety among humans.

I'm confused. Your question is, "if something is closed, does that mean it is open?" What?

No. My question is: "is something open or closed?"

Thanks. I hope more schools follow suit. When does lsac release data on Dec lsat takers? Anyone know?

LSAC is typically closed and they reopen on Jan 2nd. Typically you receive your Dec LSAT a couple days early. I would say you should have your score hopefully by Jan 3rd. Also, to your other question, most admission offices are closed until Jan 2nd. I really wouldn't count on anything between now and then. GL!

Thanks. I didn't take the Dec lsat though. I am just curious about whether or not the number of takers dropped in Dec. I guess that will come out after Jan 2nd as well. Good luck to you this cycle as well

I have to say....I've never been so eager for January 2nd in my life. Life isn't the same without neurotically checking my status checkers daily.

On the one hand I'm looking forward to the possibility of application movement and acceptances from great schools, but other people being accepted when you're not is a bad feeling. At least during this period of application respite there is none of that, and I also haven't spent hours at a computer refreshing and waiting for emails and calls that never come.
