Okay I got into NYU with 165/3.1.
What sorcery is this?
I am URM AA with a math major. Patent eligible.

You're black with a 165 - no surprise. The LSAT is a better predictor of FYGPA than UGPA so you're a better bet to do well than a 3.8 155. If you go to NYU and work your tail off for 1 yr and are at median you're set.

By "set" you mean cushy biglaw patent corner office with glass walls? I want TTT graduates serving me coffee. I don't even drink coffee.

You have a top 100 AA score, and probably a top 30-40 AA male score
Not surprised

Congrats

I hope you have at least a masters degree. A math degree isn't the most desirable background for patent law unless you also have a graduate degree in something more "applied" like something in engineering. After all, mathematical formulas can't be patented

If you're banking on just an undegrad math degree and an NYU law degree, then you might be the one serving coffee to a TTT patent attorney with a masters/PhD in ME/EE. Congrats on NYU though!

Probably. URM is a huge advantage for law school admissions and hiring.

AA isn't really considered sorcery

This is the weirdest notsohumblebrag ever. If the OP knows to disclose that he's AA URM, is this really that surprising?

Does this seriously warrant its own thread in this section?

It isn't sorcery. It wasn't even unpredictable. myLSN shows you had good chances. No need to create your own personal thread for bragging.

Is there any point to this thread existing? Other than to feed the flames/ego of this OP? He could always just take it into the NYU applicant forum, or the NYU class of 2017 thread, or if he has more questions about URM admissions, I or someone else would be happy to answer them in the URM forum.

Sorcery really. That is such a left field comment to make. I don't know why we even responded to ignorance.

I'll admit I don't stumble into the OT threads much, but I chuckled.

I hope to qualify for the patent bar exam after law school under category B- an accumulation of a sufficient number of hard science classes. Presuming I get my patent license, what difference does it make to firms looking to hire patent attorneys with nonspecific expertise? According to payscale, patent attorneys make much more than attorneys as a whole across the board(and I am assuming that the reason for this is that their license is giving them a workload that is unique to them), and a great deal of them qualify under category B or by taking the FE engineering exam offered in Michigan.

I don't know what the education requirements for taking a state's PE exam are - I was under the (possibly mistaken) assumption that most people who qualified for the patent bar under Category C actually had engineering degrees, but they just didn't match up with any of the Category A degrees, or their degree wasn't accredited by the "right" organization, or it wasn't accredited at the time they earned it. I was surprised at how many engineering programs at "big name" schools aren't ABET-accredited.
As for whether it matters how you qualified for the patent bar, the only thing I've heard is that firms like to brag to their clients about their associates' credentials, and they'd rather tell a client "s/he has a B.S. in electrical engineering and a master's in physics" if they're able. Also, with a EE or CE degree, there's more of a chance that you'd legitimately have some expertise relevant to the case. Even though a "Food Technology" degree will qualify you under Category A, unless you're doing a lot of work for Monsanto or similar corporations, it seems like a small niche.

Math major on it's own doesn't make you patent eligible...

Did this thread seriously just take over the acceptance forum? I mean...Seriously..Dude congrats, but really I think posting in the NYU thread would have been sufficient....
