I have questions!ggocat wrote:Hi y'all. I graduated from Mercer a few years ago. Happy to answer any question if I'm able. Good luck on the apps and scholarship apps.
Where does Mercer rank in your list?garrettnicole92 wrote:I haven't submitted yet because I'm trying to write the scholarship essay, but I'll check back in when I do! Several Mercer Law students from my undergrad with similar stats have gotten super scholarships, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Living in Macon was OK, but yeah, there's not a whole lot going on. I didn't really care for the bars. The affordable ones had lots of smoke, plastic cups, and locals. I avoided the more expensive bars due to the whole "no income / student" lifestyle. There were definitely some good/great restaurants. Overall, I was mostly too busy or too broke to do much during law school anyway, so the lack of opportunities in Macon didn't bother me. There's enough outdoor activity to keep you busy and it there's a lot of history / touristy things to check out.garrettnicole92 wrote:How is living in Macon? I've been through the area a few times and it doesn't seem like there's much going on.
I thought it was below average, but Macon is the only place I lived in Georgia. As a reference, my 2-bedroom, 1200-square-foot apartment was $650/month. It was also less than a mile from the law school and very close to the undergrad.garrettnicole92 wrote:Is cost of living pretty average for Georgia?
I was not from GA, and I sought work in my "back home" state. I spent both summers working outside GA, though I also had two internships and one paid job in GA during law school. I secured post-grad employment (clerkship) shortly before my 3L year.garrettnicole92 wrote:Did you decide to work in Georgia after graduation? How long did it take you to find a job?
That's my understanding, yes. When I enrolled at Mercer, it and GSU were ranked the same. I understand GSU rose dramatically and Mercer dropped into the third tier, but I still think Mercer has a good reputation throughout the state, as shown by its employment numbers compared to GSU. Of course, not many people will be making high $ right out of law school. The legal job market is pretty rough, and law school is no golden ticket. Despite the good reputation of any school, you've got to be proactive, network, do internships, etc.garrettnicole92 wrote:Mercer has a pretty good reputation locally, right?
do you mind sharing your numbers?goldgirl786 wrote:Complete 11/20/13. Admitted today 12/2/13 via status checker

Mercer is one of my top choices, yes, although things have gotten shifted around a little as scholarship offers have come in. I'm personally taking the apply-to-lower-ranked-schools-to-get-a-bigger-scholarship route (shh, don't tell). I got a scholarship at another school that would leave me paying $6,000 for all three years so I'm really considering that school at the moment. I've heard that with my numbers I have a chance at a similar scholarship at Mercer, so I'm really waiting on that info to make a decision. If that's the case its pretty likely that I'll attend.goldgirl786 wrote:Congrats! Is Mercer your top choice tho? You think you'll attend?garrettnicole92 wrote:Admitted today via e-mail!

Uh, not terribly high. It's kinda lower on my list. I'm not too hot on the region so it would take getting turned away from most of my other choices to attend. I am planning on visiting the campus soon though, so maybe that will raise it a bit higher as I hear it's a really nice campus. We'll see, but yeah, not terribly high.Vardges wrote:Congrats! What is your likelihood of attendance?
