I don't think so! When did you apply? I submitted to the 2 year Accelerated JD option recently.

In review as of today. It says to expect an answer by the end of the calendar year, which I assume means before Christmas. Is there a typical amount of time between in review and a decision? Also, has anyone else applied to their 2 yr program?

Same problem here.. "Decision rendered" as of 12/09, but no email. Wondering if this means we're denied....

Did your email mention the program? I applied for the 2 year but my acceptance email didn't specify which program, though it did mention my scholarship being renewable the second year.

My DR status JUST changed online to Waitlisted.

Let me know if anyone else makes the WL too.

Also, if anyone knows anything about chances of admittance and chances at scholarships with the WL, please feel free to throw in your two cents!
Probably not too high, unless later in the cycle they start figuring out that the people submitting deposits have lower numbers than expected. I can only think of one person who got money this past year after being WL'ed. And it likely won't be for very much money, if at all.

I think Pepperdine at sticker is an awful idea. Would not go to Chapman/SW unless full ride. What are your numbers?

Yea neither of those options are good options.

xoGossipGirl wrote:But do you guys think SW would be decent if my scholarship was a full ride or at least more than half? And how much of a scholarship from Pepp would be needed for you guys to think it's a smart choice?
Stipulations on scholarship to Southwestern?

And you'll get a variety of views, but generally you need to look at the cost/benefit analysis of whether it is worth going to SW for 3 years, accumulating some debt (full ride doesn't mean that you get housing and everything else paid for) for a chance of getting a decent job after law school. None of these schools can guarantee meaningful JD required employment after LS (let alone biglaw) so you have to look at whether that debt is worth the risk.

Personally, I wouldn't go to either of those schools without a minimum 2/3 to 3/4 scholarship but that's me. It is different for everyone, and everyone is in a different financial situation. That being said, Pepperdine law is actually a good place to go to law school for the right kind of person so I would definitely choose it over SW big time.

xoGossipGirl wrote: Your response is really helpful; I feel like a lot of stronger candidates always just say to "try to get into a better school" but obviously that isn't an option for me right now. I really want to practice patent law (I'm a chemistry major). I don't know the particulars yet but I do know that I'm okay not doing biglaw. I was hoping that having a specialty might open some doors for me, even if I graduate from a third tier? And I really did like the idea of Pepperdine so if the SW-type schools don't give me significant money I'll be willing to attend Pepp at any price.
Knowing that you're interested in patent law and could sit for the patent bar is really important info. I'd check around the forums to see some of the advice about what schools to attend if you are able to sit for the patent bar, because that'll change your situation a bit as well.

xoGossipGirl wrote:From the research I've done so far I believe that the only requirements to sit for the patent bar are a certain number of undergrad hours in STEM-courses (which my Chemistry degree accomplishes) and a JD (it really wouldn't matter what particular school the JD is obtained from). I think I must also pass the state bar before sitting for the patent but that's pretty much it as far as requirements go. That being said, part of me really just wants to get a decent JD where it will be cheapest because I won't necessarily need a big name on that degree for the field I'm going into (I mean, I'm not trying to work for GE or anything!) But thank you- I will start searching around the forums for more info!
Whoah! Some wrong info up there^

1. You do not need a JD to sit for the patent bar.
2. You usually need a science or engineering degree (but not just any science or engineering degree, must be properly accrediteted, etc), but certain classes can count to meet this requirement. Be very careful when looking to see what counts though as this is not completley straight forward.
