UMN is making it rain this cycle.

Got my acceptance packet today. Very nice, but am honestly underwhelmed by the scholarships, definitely lower than I was expecting. $25k/year

Glancing at LSN there seems to be a ton of variability in scholarships. No rhyme or reason. I didn't do a detailed study, but that's what it looks like to me. Some "low" numbers getting full rides, a wide range of people getting the standard $25-30K, etc. What's going on over at UMN?

DAMN! Eh, I might risk it anyways.

So I'm in at 25k a year and have always loved Minnesota so it is basically near the top for me(and I'm near the end of picking). My question is, does anyone know if Minnesota is open to negotiating/has been in the past? From what it sounds like they are "making it rain" this cycle, so would that imply they won't improve on the offer?

Thanks guys!

They pretty much don't negotiate.

I have 1 friend who managed to negotiate. She was a local with a 170 and was in at NU/UVA. And she asked like 5 times.

I tried negotiating already. My numbers aren't anything special but I got the same offer you did. They sent me back mostly a form letter indicating that they do not negotiate, followed by a really well-written personal message from the admissions woman saying she is on IBR and took the risk at full tuition and still thinks it was a good decision. Good luck, I guess based on Nova's message (though I don't quite have the same prospects as her friend did) I will just keep asking.

I am seriously beginning to consider this school now but was hoping a knowledgeable admitted student or current student could alleviate some of my concerns about this school. One of my main concerns stems largely from the numerous posts on TLS that say to stay away from this school unless you have connections in Minnesota. I have no problem working in Minnesota after I graduate but will I be essentially dooming myself, coming from the Boston region and having gone to undergrad in the South?
I think it largely depends on where you have connections. I'm from Minneapolis, attend UMN, and will be clerking at a prestigious firm this summer in DC, largely through personal connections. I also know plenty of 3Ls who have accepted positions in NY, California, etc. I have come to the conclusion that a lot of the bad rap that UMN gets as far as its national reach and placement are concerned stems from the fact that TLS doesn't seem to realize that plenty of UMN students actually want to stay in the Minneapolis area to work after graduating. That's not quite the same thing as having a non-portable degree.

I unfortunately am not able to make the April one, just like the March one. Hope that doesn't negatively affect me

Complete: 2/27/14
Decision: 3/12/14
Stats: Around both medians

Accepted via voicemail. Missed phone call :'(
Hoping this fast turnaround = $$$, but I doubt it.

ETA: When is the April ASW? Thanks in advance!

Hey, I just got accepted (via phone call) from Minnesota and I would like to go there and have heard they've been pretty generous with their scholarship money. I was just wondering, how long about did it take for people to hear about their scholarship packages after being accepted?

It comes in your acceptance package in the mail. It took mine about one week to get here and I live in the Midwest.

I just went under review with date change to today. Should I expect to hear back soon? Congrats to those admitted already.

They were one of the fastest moving schools for me, YMMV.

I've had 3 date changes, another came in today. Minnesota is taking forever! Any movement besides date changes that you guys know about?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
