Top Law Schools

I didn't see a U of A thread yet. I applied, and my numbers are 154/3.41.
I know, I'd be lucky to get admitted! But I like Tucson, and the law school, so I went for it.

Anyone else? Feel free to laugh at my numbers. Oh, and I'm 39 years old, so I'm an old man. Married, too.

1. It seems in the videos I see that virtually everyone is in fantastic shape...is the Tucson area brimming with hot people?

2. How diverse is the area? I am Asian and I went to middle school, high school, and college where it's +87% white. No area in the US should be 87% white/black/hispanic/asian, I think that a lack of diversity is dangerous to the progression of ideas, innovation, people, etc. and I'm really interested in living somewhere that isn't so racially homogenous.

3. I have heard Tucson described by some folks as having a "small town" feel. Why is that? Is it because, relative to Phoenix, it is smaller? Their population is like a half a million people which seems pretty big! My city has a little over 100,000 and feels fairly large.

1. I think one of the main reasons fitness is so big here is because we have weather to be outside all year long. If you love cycling, hiking, running....Tucson is perfect for you. Of course not 100% of people are in-shape workout-a-holics, but I would definitely say that it's above average. Most of my weekends consist of being outside (we have bbqs/pool parties year round). Today is a nice mild 80 degrees.

2. So I am from an area that is 90% white, and can honestly say I was almost culture shocked when I got here. I cannot speak for the law school demographics, but the university as a whole is VERY diverse. We are 45minutes to Mexico, afterall! Also, the undergrad study body is really really large, which is what adds to the amount of backgrounds you will be exposed to. It's one of the things I love most.

3. We call Tucson a "small town" is because it is sooooo flat. Tucson is situated between four mountain ranges; it is its' own little valley. Our downtown area is the only area in the city where you will see a "skyscraper" or tall building. And there's probably less than 10 of those. You can get anywhere in town via mainstreets.....we only have one freeway. Additionally, we have no professional sports or other universities to compete with, which, IMO, is awesome. The whole community is ALL UofA ALL the time. There is not a single person in this damn town who isn't at the football game, or at a bar watching it, on a Saturday afternoon. Want to go to the basketball game? Better buy your tickets months in advance because it WILL be sold out. We have that "small town feel" because the community is so tight-knit around the University.

And yes, Tucson is much much smaller than Phoenix. Same with UofA compared to ASU. The Uofa Campus is STUNNING. ASU has like freeways that run through it. Although I will admit that I am considering ASU for law school since it is ranked higher, ASU just does not compare to the amazing campus that is the UofA. You feel as if you are on an Ivy League campus at a state public university. Everything is centralized, every building is uniform and made of brick, the green grasses (which in Arizona is not common) are prominent year round, palm trees line the main street (we call it the Mall).... it is beautiful. If you make a trip here, the campus itself could be enough to convince you to come.

I was in an area with no internet service for about a week, so it's good to see all of the info about U of A! However, I would like to clarify one thing, Austinbound. It is 45 minutes to Mexico under normal conditions. With officers from three agencies in pursuit, it only takes me 25 minutes. Which, although not the official record, is pretty darn good. I don't want to monopolize the thread, so I won't talk about that anymore.

Really great information, austinbound! This school is looking more and more appealing as I learn about it. I can see how the close knit nature of the community can make the city seem smaller to some folks, it still sounds like the kind of semi-metropolis I'm interested in living in. And I am TOTALLY ready to be culture-shocked like you were when you started attending undergrad at U of A. Thanks a million for the wisdom. Now just need that acceptance letter!!
