they offered me 45k.

20 first year, 15 2nd, 10 3rd.
I was sent a need-based application form for scholly. I haven't heard anything back yet...it's been like 2 weeks. :/
It's been longer for me. And I sent them offers from other schools to negotiate. Hope to hear something soon...

I emailed FSU this morning asking about when I should hear back about scholarships, and was offered $14,000/year with no stipulations. I suggest anyone waiting to hear back about scholarships to go ahead and shoot them an email! Good luck!

Had you already started negotiating with them previously?

No, I just mentioned how I would love to come back to tally for law school (went for undergrad) and that I had offers from Emory and Stetson.

I want to negotiate with FSU but I feel pretty dirty about doing it. They're already offering a large sum of money with no stipulations. I should be receiving a chunk of federal grant money so maybe I don't even need to.

So... just got in with a 3.28 GPA and a 161 LSAT and some $$$

not a URM nor was I involved in any interesting activities in college. I also applied late in the cycle... so there's hope.

How did they let you know about money?

They called me and let me know I was accepted. The admission's officer said I also got some money and that I would get a merit app later that day. I asked "Merit app? You mean, I still have to apply?" and she explained that I was given money but the app is more like just accepting it? I was confused because the app I got later that day was indeed an application for aid... whatever, I filled it out.

But if you read the app it says FSU does aid differently. It's by invitation only. So, if they don't want you to get aid, you won't be invited to apply for aid. However, if they wanna give you some money, they ask you to apply.
Our scholarship process here at Florida State College of Law may be slightly different from those of the other schools to which you have applied or been accepted. In an effort to identify and direct our scholarship funds to the students who are most interested in our law school, we utilize a scholarship application-by-invitation process. Based on information contained in your admissions file, you are invited to complete and submit a brief application for consideration of a First Year Law Scholarship. We offer a range of First Year Law Scholarships, including some multi-year awards.

I just got a response from the scholarship office at student affairs saying they were not in a position to make any more offers for $$$ at the moment but that the position might change within a week. :-/

I got a scholly, but it's really measly and it's non-renewable. Withdrawing. Hope one of you guys get my spot and the money they awarded me.

Good luck everyone!

FSU is my number one choice and I wouldn't mind waiting until late June for a decision, however, I can't decide whether or not to spend $500 putting a seat deposit down at my safety school. I really don't have that kind of money to spend if I do end up getting into FSU. Any advice? Should I just wait for a decision?

* And PLEASE avoid the transfer advice-- I'm well aware I can transfer after a year, however, I know I won't end up doing that.

Ask yourself:
1) If you pay the deposit, and DO NOT get into FSU, will you be ok with having your diploma have your safety school's name?
2) If you pay the deposit, and DO get into FSU, will you be ok with moving last second to Tallahassee, and most likely not having a scholarship?
3) If you DO NOT pay the deposit, and DO NOT get into FSU, will you be ok with taking a year off, and reapplying next cycle?

I'm in a similar situation, and I'm going to pay a couple deposits. Not willing to take another year off. Do what you think is best, good luck!

I already live in Tally (go to UG at FSU), but those are good things to consider. I have been contemplating taking a year off, but I don't think it's the best idea (my sister did it before law school and didn't recommend it). I'm thinking I may just pay the seat deposit as a safety measure :/

curious, I would have thought there was a world of difference between FIU, Miami and FSU.

If you got into Miami with no money, I am really suprised you got into FSU. Good for you!

If I were you, I'd ditch FIU for FSU. At the very least you should be able to break even. The cost of living is so much lower in Tallahassee that you'd probably graduate with the same amount of debt as if you went to FIU with 15k.

The alumni base is much larger for FSU and the school has better name recognition.

I take the USNWR rankings with a grain of salt... but 45th ranked verses 100th ranked is kind of a big deal.

well, that's my unsolicited advice! lol

Just got the call! I'm in! I doubt with any scholarship offers though.

I was offered $5k/yr to FIU(with an additional $5k/yr of grants) & $20k/yr to UM... Anyone know if I have at least a shot?

Thanks in advance!

There were some pictures of the previous ASD on the FSU Law Facebook page and other social media sites. You can take a look at what the people were wearing. I know UF said theirs is formal, but the FSU one seemed much more casual.
