Re: UChicago Waitlist 2013
Luckily for all of you, Chicago, unlike most schools, publishes detailed and comprehensive employment data on its students' employment outcomes. For example, here is the data on summer employment that even includes data on 1L summer jobs for the current 3Ls. Based on timing, there will be data on this past summer later this year.
If you want data on full-time employment, it's here
Don't lend any weight to the dramatic rantings of one anonymous internet poster.
Edit: You'll see that, for the class of 2013, 81% of students worked at law firms their 2L summer. And for the class of 2012, two-thirds of the class started their first jobs at firms with 500+ attorneys. This is the class that had their OCI in the fall of 2010.

Re: UChicago Waitlist 2013
I hope you all realize that Haymarket's links are misleading. Law firm is not the same as Biglaw or $160,000 a year, and it's definitely not the same as working in the city you want to work in. If you end up working for a plaintiff-side firm for $50,000 a year, you count as one of the 81% of people "working in Law Firms." By the way, that 81% does not include the people who dropped out after OCI, but it does include mass-mailing results and all the transfers who come from T2 law schools with perfect grades.
These two above me probably did well during OCI. Some people do. Then again, some people get lucky, some people are related to attorneys who can pull strings for them, and many people have work experience. True, there are tools, people bidding inappropriately, and jackasses. But there are only a handful of those and there are much more than a handful of people who strike out of OCI. UChicago is the last or second-to-last school visited by most law firms -- conveniently, no one has contradicted that fact. If you're secondary market or DC and the idea of being stuck in NY for the rest of your career makes you shudder, go to a lower ranked school in your region, especially if it's willing to give you a full ride.
Take a look at the employment thread: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... &start=800
Or you can listen to Haymarket and take a chance, but don't be surprised when more than a handful of you have nothing after OCI next year.

Re: UChicago Waitlist 2013
This post claims to provide both the 2L summer employment of the class of 2012 and 2013 for Vault firms. Here it is, reposted:
Class of 2012:
But your conclusion seems right... if someone has a full ride at another T14 (or even T1), chances are you've already started classes, and if you got off Chicago's WL it would be pretty crazy to drop out weeks into classes and lose your full ride to come here, unless you had a really good reason for it. Even completely ignoring employment it wouldn't be a great option.
Class of 2012:
Class of 2013:7.1% in the V5
8.6% in the V5-10 range (so 15.7% total in the V10)
16.2% in the V11-20 range (so 31.9% total in the V20)
6.2% in the V21-30 range (so 38.1% total in the V30)
13.8% in the V31-50 range (so 51.9% total in the V50)
11.4% in the V51-100 range (so 63.3% total in the V100)
5.7% at firms not in Vault, but in the NLJ250 (so 69% total in the V100/NLJ250)
Obviously this is from a couple years ago, so it might not be completely accurate now. But at the very least, it seems to be a good reason for us 0L's to relax (just a little bit) about employment... in addition to the fact that the median salary is $160,0009.4% in the V5
12.1% in the V5-10 range (so 21.4% total in the V10)
16.2% in the V11-15 range (so 33.5% total in the V15)
4.5% in the V16-20 range (so 37.9% total in the V20)
8.5% in the V21-30 range (so 46.4% total in the V30)
10.3% in the V31-50 range (so 56.7% total in the V50)
12.1% in the V51-100 range (so 68.8% total in the V100)
8.5% at firms not in Vault, but in the NLJ250 (so 77.2% total in the V100/NLJ250)

Class of 2012- based on my calcs, around 77% of the class are doing pretty well (biglaw/fed clerkship/"legit" PI/gov/business gigs).Cassandra_Troy wrote:I hope you all realize that Haymarket's links are misleading. Based on the post above, it seems like Class of 2013 did even better.
It's not rosy but it's def. not abysmal. Even at 80% chance, that's 1 in 5 who's pretty screwed or not in an ideal position.
Also OCI this year seems to be especially bad. So everyon eshould take that into consideration.

46/183 (25%) of 1Ls have firm jobs, the vast majority of which are market paying, but I can't certify 100%
193/238 (81%) of 2Ls are at firms, I won't even begin to decide whether they are market paying but again the vast majority is a safe assumption. Full disclosure, there might be people who are splitting that are counted twice, so that number might be deviate a little (either upward - I see at least one split between firm/judge, or downward - people doing 2 firms). 49 of these are at V10s, 101 at V30s.
Of those that are not at firms:
3/238 (1.3%) corporate
16/238 (6.7%) government
1/238 (.4%) judge
1/238 (.4%) non-law
23/238 (9.6%) public interest

Please use your own thread. This is not an "about Chicago" info thread.ChampagnePapi wrote:What exactly is that thread supposed to tell us?Cassandra_Troy wrote:I hope you all realize that Haymarket's links are misleading.
