I was wait listed by email on a sunday about 8 days after submitting my application. I wonder if the fast turnaround time is a good thing?

Arguable. We have data to support that WL after 7 days is good, after 9 is bad. 8 days could go either way.

the 8 day wait-list is most assuredly a soft reject. 9+ days and I would say you are an eventual admit though.
