Admitted a few days ago and received a packet on the same day. Been to the new location, looks nice. With the in-state tuition CUNY is one of my top choices! :)

Congrats. It should be one of the top choices. It's one of the very few schools that I don't consider criminal because of their low tuition.

I may or may not apply depending on the outcome of my Dec LSAT.

Nothing, since end of November. I think only acceptances have been sent out so far.

Looks like the first batch of rejects were sent yesterday. I believe all law schools are about numbers game (no matter how much they claim it is 'holistic' and especially with the ever decreasing applicant pool) but they did reject a 160+ LSAT applicant and 155 LSAT applicant albeit under 3 gpa according to LSN. If there is one school that is slightly more 'holistic', it's probably this school.

That being said, last year they did not admit anyone below 150 according to lsac.org stats. So still a numbers game.

How do you get your app checker going?

I submitted my app on thursdant heard and have anything yet. LSAC has my old email in their system, one i cannot access anymore. I am thinking that might be causing the delay.....Well either that or they just didnt contact me yet.

how many schools did you apply to?

I'm probably going to hear my decision around June or so since CUNY knows I only apply to 1 school (them).

Plus with applications down, CUNY is probably waiting it out.

about 20. why did you only apply to one school if you don't mind me asking?

I applied to 11 last cycle, got accepted to 7. Had couple of 20K scholarships from TTTT schools but turned it down. CUNY is the only school that makes sense fiscally (despite alarming employment numbers) and I didn't want to spend much this cycle. If I don't get in, then no law school for me and I won't regret it.

What do you guys think of the new ranking for CUNY? Last year, they were in their #110s if my memory serves me right but with the new formula, they dropped to the 130s. I'm sure this drop won't have much of an effect on their 37% full-time, long-term, JD required employment stat (so sad) but would like to know what you guys think.

It's very evident looking at the stats provided by lsac and lawschoolnumbers that CUNY is trying to crack the top 100. This new ranking certainly won't help them.

Hi Hot_pocket. I visited CUNY a few months ago and really got a good feeling for the program. I found out I was admitted a few days ago but have yet to hear about any aid (merit or otherwise). Other than the focus on public interest, which is very important for me, I was also very keen on CUNY because of it's low tuition. Unless they offer me some money, however, because of the offers I've gotten from elsewhere, it looks like it could cost me more to go to CUNY than to Brooklyn or Cardozo. So here is my question: from your experience as a 1L, and as someone who was applying to schools relatively recently and I assume shopped around, would you say that CUNY's emphasis on public interest is so strong that it would even be worth going there even if it cost more than schools with higher rankings that also have decent public interest opportunities and pretty good clinics? And I know you can't necessarily speak for the programs at Brooklyn and Cardozo, but I guess what I'm hoping to hear is that you're absolutely thrilled to be at CUNY and would without a doubt go there again! Sorry for being long-winded.

Yeah, I mean, I am glad that I chose this school over others.
In all likelihood--you wont be receiving any aid...this is a public school after all. We have only a small amount of scholarships available. You also are not likely to receive any information re: your finaid until after you make your decision, and make a deposit. It sucks, I know.
BUT. I do have some things to say about deciding to come to CUNY over Cardozo or Brooklyn, if you are into PI--dont.
Or, rather, at CUNY we all really care and are super passionate about public interest and all of the different causes that brought us to be interested in CUNY and law in general. At Brooklyn & Cardozo, that interest isn't there, when you ask about public interest, the answers seem to be targeted to incoming students to appease their schoolboy fantasy of doing good for the world, but in reality, they dont care that much.
Graduating and going into PI doesn't seems so feasible when you are not in a school of likeminded people and professors. Its hard enough to find PI jobs right now, I can't imagine trying without the support that CUNY students, faculty, staff give to show that we are doing the right thing, even though it seems so hard.

Hey HOT_POCKET and any other CUNY students on here:

Do you know how selective the process is for the graduate fellowship? What sorts of students have they chosen to receive it? When do they notify you if you've been considered? I sent in my deposit last week and will be sending my financial aid forms in the next day or 2.

Thanks for the answer Hot_pocket. I understand that CUNY has more of an emphasis on PI than those other schools (and I love that about CUNY and it is why it was the first school I considered), but I know people who have gone to schools like Cardozo and NYU (not Brooklyn though) and gone on to get great PI positions. I'm an older student and am concerned about the debt I take on and am worried what might happen if I'm not in the third who can get PI jobs upon graduation. I get the sense the other NYC schools might provide me with a few more options and this is by far the biggest reason I'm hesitant to accept CUNY's offer, especially when it looks like I might have to make my decision without any idea if I'll get aid or not. Do you think I'm thinking about things the wrong way?
