Did you mean for this to sound as douchey as it does?
As for the Tenderloin, I walked through it during admitted student's day last year and it's way sketchier than any time I've been on Telegraph (at least close to the Berkeley campus).

They wouldn't give me a fee waiver, so I was hesitant about applying.

Maybe it's a seasonal thing? The hobos probably new it was student's day.

They have a reputation for being stingy with scholarships, it would be tough to squeeze one out of them especially when they know you would never actually attend. You'll have to be content with money at CCN, sorry. Enjoy Columbia.

Agreed that it's a lot like many big cities but I think its reputation is deserved. I definitely would not walk around that area at night and even during the day you need to have your wits about you.

Hastings has a free shuttle service that drives students from that leaves every 30 minutes from 5/6-11pm to places within 1 mile of the school. I take it home every day. There is also a security escort that will walk you between buildings at night. There's no reason for you to be walking around alone in the evening if you don't feel safe doing so.

You don't know anything about me, but thanks for making incorrect assumptions. Easy to prove you're an idiot when you open your mouth and do all the legwork.

The short answer is no. The UCs generally prefer to not get in a bidding war with each other over students.
Now, its possible that there are one or two people walking around with a fullride, but I've not heard of anyone with more than 10k need based aid + 10k high-GPA/LSAT aid/year.
They did randomly decide to give everyone an extra 1.5k grant in the middle of the semester though.

Actually, I know of at least 7-10 people in our 1L class who got grants in the $35,000 to $45,000 range, but they all had pretty awesome stats (either 170+ LSAT or 3.8+ GPA).

It's definitely worth a shot! Hastings is also very reasonable when it comes to negotiating scholarship packages, but looking at your stats you should have no problem getting BANK from Hastings. Best of luck!

There are a few blocks in the area that you shouldn't walk around at night, but it is fine to be walking around during the day. There are tons of people walking around all over the tenderloin and most of the crackheads keep to themselves. A lot of the people that work in the financial district walk, bike, or take buses through the tenderloin every day in the morning and evenings after work and most do not get overly harassed. Maybe some crazies, druggies, or drunks might call out to you, but just smile say hello and keep walking. Just use common sense. Don't walk around texting or pulling out your smart phone. Don't wear some flashy headphones like those Dr. Dre headphones that are popular and don't act like your Sh1t don't stink and you will be fine.

The Tenderloin is pretty safe. It might actually be more safe than most places per capita, because there are so many different people around at all times. Don't get me wrong, I avoid Leavenworth Street, and the homeless people are gross, but those are just aesthetic, not safety concerns.
Also, now that the Twitter headquarters has moved in three blocks away from us, everytime you send a tweet the neighborhood gets slightly more gentrified.

E.D. acceptances came out for us last year on the 14th, so make sure your phone is on, and start getting ready to celebrate tomorrow.

I received an email notifying me I was complete in October. It said they aren't handing out any decisions until January.

Me as well. Also, I got a really nice voice mail from the assistant dean of admissions. He incorporated info from my application and was very personal. Made me feel special for getting in, cool feeling.

Just to add to this, Hastings offered me $75k last year and my stats aren't nearly as awesome as twinkletoes'.
