Of course, it has been. (Those that think the manna just dropped from heaven don't understand organizations, and in particular, educational organizations.)

But the real question is, 'Why Now?' (From a marketing/pr standpoint, the College would get a much bigger bang for its buck by announcing months ago.)
Moral of the story: WUSTL rewards loyalty while all of us who jumped ship before the first deposit are getting the "I told you so" debt from other schools.
How does that explain WashU's groveling to some students who had already withdrawn?
BD:

If you let out all the $ months ago, other schools have a chance to respond and counter. There ae a number of T-20 schools with little or no scolly $ remaining. It is not groveling to withdrawn students. Most of those offers went to students with acceptances to fine schools, now a significant portion of those are coming to WUSTL. Not looking for a big bang...just a long one.

Are you saying a "significant portion" of withdrawn students who were offered the fully are now changing course and attending WUSTL? If so, how do you know that?

they should be throwing all this money above their median, they would have gotten many of these 166s anyway.

Most schools make big financial decisions in June, after the school year is over. They probably just now decided to start implementing plan "T14 or Bust" or whatever they call it. Next year the scholarships they're throwing at 166s and 167s are going to go to 168s/169s. But since they have the money now they're giving it out to their higher LSATs/trying to entice a couple candidates back from other schools

As a 167 who had withdrawn, who should I email to find out if I can get this offer? General admissions email? Or a person.

166 is not a "higher" LSAT, it's their median.

I wonder if they're going to use any of this extra cash to distribute to those below a 166 after all the full-ride peeps have made their decisions? I'm assuming that not everyone who received the offer will take the bait. Honestly, this could really settle the Law School Self-Interest v. We Care For Our Students debate.

how many apps did they get?? I mean last year they had 4000 but their ranking fell to 23rd(before making a comeback this year) so it must have declined sharply. too many people still pay attention to US news.

Any idea how I should phrase this? I was pretty amicable in my withdrawing letter.

Hmmm not sure, the ABA data is from last year's cycle. Probably won't get that info until this time next year. I can see this full ride thing drawing more apps for next cycle though. Ppl can bitch and whine all they want about WUSTL's intentions or desperation, but at the end of the day they're gonna want a chance to win the scholarship lottery. FWIW I think the drop in apps will affect all the schools, not just WUSTL.

Alternatively, if there's any truth to the "spend it or lose it" budget idea, then i would imagine they'll soon tender offers to 165s, as i doubt every tendered withdrawal will jump back. i think "self-interest v. we care" is probably a false dichotomy.

"FWIW I think the drop in apps will affect all the schools, not just WUSTL."

yes true but because of the drop to 23rd WUSTL probably got hit much harder for his cycle than anyone currently in top 20. That's US news for you.

Ohhh yeah i can see that happening. But only 0L's who knew that WashU was #18 previously would see it as a drop. I'm assuming most ppl don't look at the U.S. News until they actually begin their cycle.

I got offered a number that I said I'd attend for previously in like March, but given scholly increase at other school and having already locked up an apartment and it being this late in the game, things have changed. Pretty sure this is the only reason they didn't offer me the full ride lol. I basically asked for one late yesterday, but no response yet. We'll see I guess!

WUSTL is the only school doing this in the top 20, there is no one else doing anything close to this. Not yet anyway.
