It's a good place to start. I've found some awesome roommates on craigslist, but conversely found some HORRIBLE apartments and roommates on it.

It's a great place to find housing. There are some weird neckbeards who'll try to get you to split the rent in their parents' basement, but there's a lot of good stuff on there. I've done it several times. Stay away from the personals section, though.

That's awesome! I'm scarred for life in terms of living with room/housemates though. First year of UG, I was randomly assigned to a paranoid schizophrenic who developed a substance addiction and threatened to cut me if I didn't return the drugs I stole/she misplaced. -_- Nope. Never again.

lololol yeah, I had great roommates (i.e. who I barely saw), so it worked out. I've had some real doozies in my day, though. I plan to live alone if at all possible.

I did rideshares for seven-hour drives through craigslist. Never met a neckbeard. They've mainly been pretty tech-savvy, young, hip people ... My drivers have been sorority girls, professors, young professionals ...

As for housing, just make sure you visit and look at the apartment. There are lots of scams, but they're pretty easy to pick out. As long as you do the transaction in person and never send money online and stuff ... you're good. Most people I know in SF get their apartments through craigslist. I've bought all sorts of random stuff off craigslist too (like the FitDesk I posted earlier).

Maybe CL in the Midwest is different. I dunno. What else do people use?

muggers in stl are pretty inept. last time one of them tried to mug my friend's dad and he literally broke the guy's face and then kicked him a few more times while he was on the ground for good measure.

I went potluck freshman year. She was okay despite being sort of a bitch. I think two years of being sardined into a sorority house since then has made me pretty flexible when it comes to roommates though.

I either want to live alone, with a cool stranger I never have to deal with, a best friend who I don't mind being around that much, or, eventually, an SO. If I were to wind up in STL, that COL makes the first option pretty much a done deal, especially for 1L.

I'd prefer to live alone, and with the rents so low, it's a good bet. But I'd also take advantage of it by studying mostly at home, so I wouldn't get to use the beautiful library. #WUSTLproblems
