Re: WUSTL ranking vs immediate peers (minus Emory and GW since they're relatively stable)
Four biggest factors in U.S News Rankings (in order of weight):
-Peer reputation score (advantage WUSTL)
-Job placement (no idea)
-Lawyer/Judge reputation score (advantage WUSTL)
-LSAT median (depends)
(All data is most updated info available)
--ImageRemoved--
Minnesota could be a threat, but ultimately I think WUSTL's better peer/lawyer/judge scores will edge them out.

(Lawyer/Judge score is from 2010. Couldn't find updated one. But that score tends to be pretty predictable, stable, and hierarchical. It's safe to assume that WUSTL will score higher than the other three as it traditionally has in the past)

Re: WUSTL c/o 2016
When comparing with Minnesota, Wash U has a better reputation with firms, a cheaper cost of living, a career services office that isn't pretending it's 2007 (although this is not an endorsement of our CSO), and it isn't located in a dark dungeon of a building. That being said, the dip in ratings due to honest employment numbers definitely hurt us last year - between that and the huge applicant # drop, our LSAT went down and we *Definitely* lost a lot of students to Minnesota and the like - even though it was obvious that the ranking drop was irrelevant. Moral of the story: For some reason, US News rankings are still the #1 factor that OL's use to pick a school. (I think I was one of the exceptions in turning down more money from Minnesota to come to Wash U).
With another applicant drop, it's going to be pretty interesting to see how we do this year - I think our admissions office is definitely on their game this year. But it's already apparent that our LSAT is going to drop to 165 - but considering the ~25%+ drop in applicants over the past two years, this isn't shocking. The biggest thing that Wash U has going for it in the long run is that it's just simply flush with cash. Hopefully we won't be outpurchased by Minnesota again this year, but with how they game the employment numbers and how OL's continue to be silly, who knows. I know when I visited Minnesota last year, their CSO literally bragged about the ~50 graduates they were paying to pump up their employment numbers as a good thing for us if we couldn't find employment.

WUSTL is very high on my list. I'm from the midwest and really like St. Louis. I've been admitted to other good schools (UGA, Wake, UMD, WISC, Tulane), but am really hoping for an admit from WUSTL. I have been complete since the first week of November. Should I contact the admissions office or send a LOCI??

Yeah, I don't know why LST doesn't have an asterisk for them. For c/o 2011 it was about 10% school funded positions. And all of them were short termshntn wrote:Randomnumbers wrote:I know when I visited Minnesota last year, their CSO literally bragged about the ~50 graduates they were paying to pump up their employment numbers as a good thing for us if we couldn't find employment.

Minnesota stopped being an option for me as soon as I saw a Gangland episode featuring Hmong gangs in the Twin Cities.shntn wrote:Randomnumbers wrote:I know when I visited Minnesota last year, their CSO literally bragged about the ~50 graduates they were paying to pump up their employment numbers as a good thing for us if we couldn't find employment.

Looking at the LST numbers for Minnesota and Wash U, I'm pretty happy I came here. Looking at the big firm numbers from the ABA report page, we murder them. And they place almost universally in Minnesota. I thought they were more of a peer school until I started looking at the actual data just now.

Re: WUSTL c/o 2016
Why do you think that WUSTL's median LSAT will drop to 165? I bet that WUSTL will shrink the class even further before letting the LSAT score drop more. WUSTL can afford to have a smaller class.Randomnumbers wrote:When comparing with Minnesota, Wash U has a better reputation with firms, a cheaper cost of living, a career services office that isn't pretending it's 2007 (although this is not an endorsement of our CSO), and it isn't located in a dark dungeon of a building. I REFUSE TO LET IT DROP. All 165+ admits should expect constant PMs until they matriculate. If you want to avoid this, then, to paraphrase Antoine Dodson, "hide yo numbas, hide yo LSNs"UAX09 wrote:Why do you think that WUSTL's median LSAT will drop to 165? Re: WUSTL c/o 2016
Trust me, it won't drop again. WUSTL is being proactive now. WUSTL shrank this year's transfer class from ~ 46 to 23 in order to improve employment stats. WUSTL is rich, it doesn't need large 1L and large transfer classes to generate revenue. I think WUSTL miscalculated the intensity in the decline of applicants - resulting in a two point LSAT drop. I don't think that it will happen again.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
