Probably any other T1.
Although Baltimore is much lower in the rankings they are the only other law school in Maryland and that may help?

Was anyone in this thread waitlisted last cycle but released once the school year began? Curious to see if any of you got in or were waitlisted a second time. I was waitlisted last cycle but haven't heard anything since I submitted in November.

Yeah I retook but don't think it will help much. I applied in March last time which is extremely late of course. Not getting rejected was a victory for me because my numbers are middle of the road. The other two schools that waitlisted me let me in but Maryland is really making me sweat.

Hey guys. Sorry I've been kinda busy. I applied to 23 different schools with the intention of going to the highest ranked school I got into with the most money. I graduated undergrad in 2003 and have a pretty decent resume. That said I was originally Waitlisted at Maryland. They accepted me in April with no money. I decided in June not to go to Maryland since I received more money elsewhere. I called to withdraw and left a message. I was called the next day with a very generous offer though not a full scholarship. They gave me 48 hours to think it over. However the next day they called and offered me a full scholly. I was very surprised.
The important thing to realize is that school applications are way down this year and schools are desperate to keep their LSAT medians. I say this because law school is a massive investment and if you are going to do it you should be smart about it. I got the money I believe because they were desperate last summer to maintain their LSAT median. I only had a 162 but that was enough. There are plenty of smart and great students here so have much higher scores than I but they did not negotiate.
Maryland is a great school but obviously it is not Yale. Therefore, if Yale charges over 45k for tuition a year you should figure every other school should cost less due to opportunity loss. Every one of you need to figure out how much you are willing to go in debt to be a lawyer knowing most new lawyers don't have jobs. I set my number at no debt from tuition, and to live thriftily.
Anyways, I will try to write more later if you have more questions. It's a tough market out there according to my friends who are lawyers. Being 150k in debt with a 43% chance of landing a legal job (ex Maryland - though everyone is equally as bad outside the top 20 and some worse) is too big a risk to me. Heck I don't even think Yale is worth 220k they say it costs. Go where you get money.
All that said I do love Maryland.

I read through last year's thread and it seems like they did this last year, too.
Did the e-mail seem generic or did it look like it was personally sent to you?

I just got that email as well. My numbers are good enough to get merit based, so I don't think it's too much of a form email. That being said, I'm stoked to get an interview!

No email for me
I spoke with admissions last week, and they told me to expect an email this week regarding scholly info. Kinda disappointed since it's pretty much 5 and still no email.

I got the email too. I'm only 10 minutes away so it'll be easy -- I wasn't expecting anything substantial (they seem a little stingy in past years) but if they offer me something nice Maryland will definitely hop up my list of schools.

I also got an email invite to interview for scholarships. I have a full schedule though from 8 to 5 and can't interview in their timeframe :/ I also think Maryland's poor legal employment stats and declining bar passage rates are a little concerning and I have other offers on the table, so I just emailed them notice that I'd like to withdraw my app... Hopefully that opens a seat and some money up for others
Good luck all!

Called admissions to find out about ASW (reimbursements and what not)-- they told me they're planning right now and that I'd have to wait for more emails -- it's in about a month and I'm kind of panicking.
To those UR, I never really checked my status -- I also received a decision within two weeks (though I'm 50% LSAT, below 25% gpa). You'll hear soon enough! Hopefully all good news

Scholly interview Friday. Better brush up on my Skype skills. Maybe I'll introduce my cat to the dean.

I'm wondering what's up with UMd's scholarship interviewing situation. I received the when-can-you-interview-for-a-merit-scholarship email about a week and a half ago and responded quickly and enthusiastically with several days/times. The day after I responded, I received an email thanking me for sending my availability and telling me that they'll be in touch shortly to schedule the interview. I haven't heard anything from them since then and it's been nine days (and I've been checking my spam folder religiously, so I know nothing from them ended up there). My stats are pretty far above median (LSAT several points above 75%ile and uGPA at median).
Anyone have any insight or ideas/suggestions?

I like Maryland, but I have to admit I scored Maryland between a C+ and B on ATL. Overall, it is a good school, but I am mainly disappointed in student services and the area the law school is in.
