Leaning closer to L&C today...for those of you who've committed already, what areas have you considered living in? Personally, I'm thinking the Lake Oswego area, but I know it's pretty pricey.

You don't want to live in Lake Oswego. Also, it's not really an area, as much as it is its own town.

If you're not going to live near campus, you might as well just move to East Portland. It is cheaper, and there is more/better/cheaper shit to do.

I've heard that there isn't much housing near campus though...thoughts? I'm looking to get my own apt (studio is fine just no sharing bathrooms!), so are there any good apartment complexes near enough that I can bike to school without needing to shower at the end of the ride?

There is housing near enough, but that part of Portland isn't really as bike friendly because the roads are more mountainous and void of sidewalks/shoulders mostly. You can live more in like Multnomah Village area, which isn't a bad choice. I honestly think the best way to do it is to live inner SE or NE and take the Pioneer Express up there. For those who don't know, the Pioneer Express is a shuttle bus that takes students from downtown Portland to campus for free. Getting to downtown Portland is easy from pretty much every inner neighborhood. Portland is small enough that if live in an inner neighborhood, your commute to campus would be less than 30 minutes, which is a great opportunity to get some reading done.

I used to live in SE in the Hawthorne district and it is much more affordable than the SW and the Pioneer Express stop downtown is less than two miles away.

Hawthorne/Belmont is an absolutely fantastic place for L&C students to live. I would also recommend Lloyd/Sulivan's Gulch/Irvington/King/etc. I think the goal should be to get close to the Pioneer Express pick-up, while still being on the east side of Portland.

You can bike there from anywhere in the inner city if you're not opposed to using the pioneer express too. If you want to live closer to campus, Burlingame and multnomah village are your best bets.

I lived in Lake Oswego. It is fine. Cheaper apartments are decent and don't cost any more than most of Portland.

You can find way cheaper rents on the east side than in lake o. Also, there is nothing to do in lake o, you would constantly be driving to school/Portland to do things. Also, I wouldn't want to spend three years of my mid/late twenties in the burbs. If you have a family and can afford it, not a bad choice. If you're a chill and sociable bro/girl, live in the city.
