Re: Wake Forest c/o 2016
I feel a little silly posting this, but I just updated my status checker and noticed in the corner after the application fee they also have a line for the application deposit and the tuition deposit, although no amount listed. I have been switching between so many status checkers recently I honestly don't remember if this was there previously... I realized it probably was, but wanted to get confirmation. Everyone else has this, correct?
Thanks for humoring me!

Anyone else get an email requesting you do some sort of recorded video interview? Status checker also updated to include this.

I got that email as well, but does it necessarily have to be a video? We only have to answer the interview questions within 60 to 90 seconds is what I got from it...patricksouthern wrote:Anyone else get an email requesting you do some sort of recorded video interview? I wonder what it means overall? Are they on the fence and want to get more information before they make the final decision, or is this apart of the regular process?
So stressful.. *sigh*

I'm kind of nervous to do the interview. Has anyone done it? It isn't a video thing is it? My mic on my computer doesn't always work...

Called the admissions office and she told me you record your answers via webcam, video phone etc. then upload it onto their site.BlueJeanBaby wrote:I'm kind of nervous to do the interview. Has anyone done it? It isn't a video thing is it? My mic on my computer doesn't always work...
Have you already made your account? I'm trying to figure out how to view the interview questions so I can at least temporarily prepare before the actual recording...

No I haven't. My mic on my laptop rarely works and my other laptop doesn't have a webcam. I guess I could make a video on my phone and then you-tube it. If I was doing that, how do I only have 60 seconds? That is the part that doesn't make sense for that. Couldn't I essentially just write the questions down then make the video after? I'm confused and I am not liking this >:(. I'd rather do a phone interview.jrstephens1991 wrote:Called the admissions office and she told me you record your answers via webcam, video phone etc. then upload it onto their site.BlueJeanBaby wrote:I'm kind of nervous to do the interview. Re: Wake Forest c/o 2016
I created an account on the interview site. There is no way to view the actual questions before you record your interview. They do have an interface where you can practice recording/test to make sure the video/sound quality comes out OK though. It looks like you only get one shot at the actual recording though, and not getting to preview the questions makes it extremely nerve-wracking. A normal interview wouldn't bother me nearly as much as this does -- having a pre-set time limit for answers, no human across from me to interact with. I'm quite unnerved by all this.

Have to admit that this process sounds pretty bizarre. I haven't received this email yet, wondering why not.

Any interviewers want to share stats? See if there is rhyme or reason? I'm pretty much a median-baby. I wonder if it is for us borderliners.

Re: Wake Forest c/o 2016
Good morning, TLSers~
Yes, it is me. I am the Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid at Wake Forest University School of Law. I traditionally participate to some degree in TLS discussions primarily to make the admission process as transparent as possible. Feel free to pose questions and I'll respond as time allows. Also feel free to message me here or directly at the contact information I've provided below.
First, regarding our timetable for releasing decisions we will probably begin admitting people before the holidays. Initially our thought had been to wait until January 31 to release all decisions but we want to alleviate as much anxiety around the process as possible. Our goal is still to provide a decision to anyone who applies by January 4 on or before January 31. Of course, it doesn't mean we'll be able to tell everyone Admit or Deny by that date. Some folks will be waitlisted and potentially even placed on hold, but everyone should have a clear sense of where they stand with Wake. If you get a decision that confuses you in any way, please contact me.
Secondly, we have implemented an online interview function. We are excited to have more information about you. We want to see your face and hear you share ideas and thoughts about yourself that let us make a better decision about whether we're a good fit for you. Unfortunately we don't have the manpower to offer even half of our applicant pool a face to face interview. We see the interview option as a benefit to students.
Applicants selected to participate in the interview have been identified by the committee as we go through the initial review process. Some folks will be borderline candidates who we need to get to know better. Others may be obvious admits we are considering for scholarships. Regardless it is not meant to cause you undue anxiety. Some may just be applicants we love on paper and want to get to know more about. The opportunity we're providing is in response to requests from applicants through the years to have a chance to show "who they are" to the committee in a manageable and timely format. Using this technology we can see and hear you talk on relevant matters right when we're looking at your application. I promise this is a good thing.
Each interview should take less than 5 minutes. There will be two questions that start the interview common to all interviewees. Basically we start by asking "Why law school?" and then as one might expect, "Why Wake Law?". Then the last three questions are pulled from a pool of questions we've created to help us get to know you better. There's no right or wrong answers here. This exercise is about seeing how well you've thought about the questions we expect you'll have given serious thought to AND how well you can respond on the spot to general questions of interest about you. I hope you'll view this as an opportunity to provide the committee information we've been unable to process and provide before at exactly the time they need it to impact your file review. Of course, I am happy to meet with any of you who have the opportunity to visit campus or want to call and talk about Wake Law or the admissions process generally.
These seem to be the most pressing questions you guys have raised up until now. If I am missing something, message me. I'll check in a gain on here in the next couple of weeks and periodically throughout the process. I look forward to reading your applications and hope you'll come to visit us on campus.
Warmest regards,
Jay Shively

I just noticed that my status checker actually says "Interview requested via email." They are really keeping those things up to date!!
Also, thank you Mr. Shively for your clarification! Wake Forest's transparency and willingness to answer questions speaks volumes about the school!
