Also someone in this thread got a big bump with a sub-3.0, figure they must be URM as well.

Incorrect. For the Mouth of Chem, as of a month or two ago ago (right when all the articles came out about 'lowest applications since whenever') we were one of only four schools in the country to have more applicants than last year (and we hadn't even hit peek application time yet).gitguy wrote:In light of the big offers going out to those with T-20 numbers, and the fact that they keep making unsolicited increases on those offers despite not having responded to half of applicants tells me that apps are way down for UCI and they are really trying to lock those numbers in.
Thoughts?

Makes me wonder if I submitted my SIR a couple days too early. Regardless, I'm stoked with $35,000 a year and can't wait to visit in April.b123 wrote:164 and i did99.9luft wrote:you, my friend, are awesome.lt_universe wrote:I got a 165 and went from nothing to $45k/ year99.9luft wrote:has anyone been bumped with a 165? from what i saw so far, it's the 166+ crowd getting bumped up.

B123 what is your GPA? What does the SIR do exactly? Do we have to withdraw from all other acceptances we have received? Or is that not until the seat deposit? I haven't had the time to actually look at it, and I don't want to withdraw as of yet due to the fact I feel some schools may not consider UCI's scholarship offer is competitive due to the fact it isn't ranked yet.

It's just a statement of intent to register. Non binding and there are no seat deposits. It helps them get an idea of their class.Dmini7 wrote:B123 what is your GPA? What does the SIR do exactly? You have selected the following:
Yes - I intend to register and enroll at UCI School of Law for Fall 2013.
Thank you for submitting your Statement of Intent to Register. We are delighted that you have made the decision to join the UC Irvine School of Law. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to activate your UCINETID. Your UCINETID will permit you to check the status of your financial aid award, apply for student housing and have access to other University systems crucial for your enrollment. Visit http://www.activate.uci.edu and click on 'Student Applicants.' You will need your 8 digit UCI Identification number to activate your UCINETID: ########. Additionally, you now have the ability to file the Statement of Legal Residence (SLR) form available at http://www.reg.uci.edu/stlr/. The SLR is important in determining your status for fee assessment and financial aid disbursements.
You can use your UCINETID to submit the Housing Application. The Housing application is available at https://my.housing.uci.edu/gateway/. Please note: there may be a slight delay between submission of your SIR and your ability to access the graduate housing application. To learn more about the Graduate Student Housing program, please click on http://www.housing.uci.edu/prospective/ ... rantee.asp.
Over the next few weeks you will receive important information from various offices within the law school and the university. We encourage you to give your full attention to these items and respond as necessary. If you have any questions regarding any communication you receive or seek any information concerning your anticipated matriculation, please contact the Law School's Admissions Office.
If in the future your Intent to Register changes, please contact the UCI School of Law Admissions Office at lawadmit@law.uci.edu or (949) 824-4545.
Sincerely,
Janice Austin

And again, I'm pretty sure there isn't a deposit. As you can see above, there is nothing mandating withdrawal. I don't know any schools that make you withdraw from other schools. I've actually heard several stories of people starting classes, getting in off the waitlist somewhere and going to that school.Dmini7 wrote: I mean I understand that, but does it require withdrawing from our other offers? Chaseink's increase was from a few years ago, he posted in here earlier stating he is a 2L and he had full ride at USC and UCI. But thanks for posting the info, it doesn't look too daunting so I could do it tomorrow. I always heard when u deposit you have to withdraw from schools who have issued an acceptance(wailtlist is ok to hold on too) but I was never sure.teiswei wrote:And again, I'm pretty sure there isn't a deposit. UCI doesn't make you deposit or withdraw.
One can send the SIR, apply for housing, and then all of a sudden decide to go someplace else in the summer (e.g. getting off a waitlist).

Yeah, nope. You will just lose seat deposits anywhere you've paid one. Some people that have done what I described above do end up losing tuition money and such but some people think its worth it for their dream school.Dmini7 wrote: Chaseink's increase was from a few years ago, he posted in here earlier stating he is a 2L and he had full ride at USC and UCI. And I know ChaseInk is a 2L, I was just curios since it was post SIR.

To those who are looking strongly at UCI, anyone contemplating a dual degree? JD/MBA or JD/MPP? Might not be the most financially prudent decision, but still something worth considering.

yeah i looked into it, you need a GMAT. plus UCI MBA isn't that prestigious (ranked in the 30s i believe), even if it weren't so expensive/time consuming/messing up the law school curriculum.teiswei wrote:I'd love to do a JD/MBA but I don't really have the time nor the money. They waive the GMAT/GRE if you are a 1L, which is why this has my attention. Nonetheless, the prestige factor (or slight lack thereof) for Merage is an issue, since we all know this is the whole point of B School.
