Does anyone know if Vanderbilt will start reviewing your application before an off-campus interview has taken place? Or will they wait for your interview to be scheduled and completed (could take weeks)?

I haven't been contacted by anyone yet and don't really want them to start reviewing my app without the interview
You go complete before your interview. Then, you have to go into the interview request portal and enter the date that your interview is scheduled for. I (assume) that this is enough to let them know that they should wait for your interview evaluation before coming to a decision.
I went complete on 11/1 and had an interview on 11/6, which was awesome!! I am pretty enamored with Vandy after that interview...really hoping for good news soon

Checking in. Applied in January last year as an undergrad. Got waitlisted. Got a job, reapplying. On the phone while I type with one hand, hence the curtness lol

Oops, I'll DESCRIBE everything in detail tonight, with pics. It was mostly material about the school and its offerings, but there was a cool sticker for my nonexistent car.alwayssunnyinfl wrote:Yeah, I haven't even gotten pictures and I'm the one excited about thisNorth wrote:Important question regarding your admission:shntn wrote:Got my box!

And sunny, just hang in there a bit longer. I decided against trying to scan a 175-page manifesto on life at Vanderbilt, so you'll have to make do with the original hard copy.

I'm conflicted on this one, because I don't wanna get too excited. There's a good chance I'm not getting this.

The box
--ImageRemoved--
There's an envelope with the official acceptance stuff
--ImageRemoved--
Which is on top of all the informational material (of which there is a metric ton, including some really detailed employment stats)
--ImageRemoved--
Out of which falls the VLS sticker
--ImageRemoved--
Now the most bestest part is the Obiter Dictum, which is a 175-page description of all things Vandy. This baby is incredibly informative for those of us who haven't been able to make it to Nashville for a visit. Some of the things I read made me <3 Vandy, while others gave me some pause. But it's amazing that they compile this in the first place to help accepted students really get a sense for the school.
--ImageRemoved--
And, well, yeah. This seemed relevant.

Would you guys recommend a "Why Vandy" essay? Or just a paragraph or 2 in PS?

Re: Vanderbilt c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 Cycle)
I had an interview today with an alumnus (c/o 2008) who is an associate for a V100 in my hometown. I was only asked three specific questions:
1) Why law?
2) Why Vandy?
3) What would I bring to Vandy (beyond academic factors)?
The rest of the 40ish minutes consisted of me asking questions (primarily about biglaw work in my hometown - the importance of personal ties, hiring from Vandy vs. local schools, etc.) and general chatter about topics ranging from scholarship negotiation and the impact of biglaw on friendships to minor league baseball, Tennessee drivers, and Nashville's alternative music scene.
It was definitely a positive experience, and a process that I wish more schools would use.

Did my off-campus interview yesterday. We met at a Starbucks and talked for about 45 minutes. My interviewer was very pleasant, personable, and informative. She asked "why law" and "why Vanderbilt" but otherwise just told me about her experience at Vandy and about the legal field in general. Very worthwhile, and not stressful at all.

That's like UVA with their regular newsletter e-mails (that I've unsubscribed from multiple times.) Michigan is also a fan of the viewbook mailings. Guhhh.gate08 wrote:Got a big envelope from Vanderbilt today. It was a viewbook. Not cool.

If there is a viewbook waiting in my mailbox and I hadn't been warned, I would have been convinced it was a rejection since we know the acceptances get boxes. I probably would have just stared at the envelope for a few days.shntn wrote:That's like UVA with their regular newsletter e-mails (that I've unsubscribed from multiple times.) Ha, if I didn't expect it coming, I would have the same reaction. In the email they send when they've received your application (at least in mine), they do say that they're sending a viewbook:
"We have sent a copy of our 2013 Viewbook to your current mailing address, and we will notify you by email once your file has been processed and submitted for review."

How long does it take for VLS to register your application? I got the email saying they had received my application but VLS still says no application on file?
