Bad luck lol. My numbers are modest 3.54/161 (URM) so that could be why but I thought I'd get at least a little something from BC. Nope that's the only offer I can use to negotiate with them. Don't think it'll be a successful negotiation. 8)

Have you heard anything? I'm also a URM on a WL at Duke, Cornell, Vanderbilt, and Fordham... (3.38/158) and got a 15k merit scholly from BC today (unsolicited). I have good softs, but F that noise, please negotiate if you haven't already... The worst that can happen is that you'll get a "NO".

Good luck, and sorry if I overlooked any update on this message.. I was skimming the thread and felt the need to reply to this.

RAWR wrote:I just sent an email saying I have to make a commitment by Tuesday (my top two schools that I've been accepted to are requiring it due to some scholly negotiating). My "in review" date is also 3/25. From reading some of this, that means they're making those decisions tomorrow?

Would it benefit me to call instead of just emailing? I like to have things in writing, but maybe I could get some better feedback if I called. I don't want to make a pest of myself, though.
The woman I spoke with was really understanding and friendly-- she asked my name and looked up my account. She said that I should definitely hear "in the next 2 days" and that I was in the final review stage. She made it seem like the decision had actually already been made, but just was not yet released. My status updated from 3/25 to 4/11, but it may just have auto-updated because she accessed my account. I'm not sure how that works. I don't think it would hurt to call.

Dammit. If they accept but can't give me scholly info by Tuesday, I have to commit elsewhere. I won't/can't pay sticker.

You have to make a binding commitment ? Seems odd unless it's a binding scholly or some sort of early decision...

If you're referring to a seat deposit, those usually aren't binding. I'm hoping that's what it is, so you can just take the L and lose the deposit if another offer is more enticing.

It's scholarship-related, yes. At one of the schools, they don't even DO seat deposits, so it's a firm yes or lose my spot entirely. For the other, I'll lose part of my scholarship if I don't send in a commitment in writing by opening of business on Tuesday. They're both terrific offers and if I didn't have BC hanging over my head, I'd be thrilled with either of them. I hate the not knowing, though.

I did just get off the phone with (two different women in) admissions. They said I'd have a decision in "the next two days," so hopefully that means by close of business Friday and not Monday. Having to make a law school decision in twelve hours is really not my idea of a good time.

The lady in admissions did say that she's been getting a lot of these calls this week, and has been passing notes along to the committee about our deadlines.... so there's that.

I'm sure the answer is somewhere in the last 87 pages, but:

If I got the financial aid portal email, but no merit scholly, does that mean BC's merit aid offer was $0? Or, is it that they havent made a merit aid decision yet?

What was your officially "under review" date? Did they send you merit scholly info?

I'm still waiting for a decision from BC. I do not need to take out loans, and therefore not filling out the FAFSA. Will BC think I am not taking the school seriously if I do not submit a FAFSA?

Admissions and financial aid are two different departments, I doubt the committee would be perusing through your FAFSA information while reviewing your application.

I could be completely wrong, but that would be my assumption.

I am in the same boat and was admitted. I dont think they care. They know some people will have savings or their parents money and wont need loans.

It's unrelated. I don't think any school cares whether you need loans or not, because they get paid either way. I did not file FAFSA either since I don't need loans for at least the first year. My decision took a really long time too, applied the first week of January, admitted April 8th, scholarship April 11th.
