Re: BU 2012-2013 Applicants
BU seems to be low balling, although I know nothing about their scholarship fund. Maybe they don't have much to work with. I'm still waiting to hear from BC. Hopefully I can effectively play these two against each other.

Negotiating a Minnesota scholarship with BU just isn't going to work. They aren't idiots.

I just got my scholarship increased 15k. But I believe that may have also been influenced by need based aid. . It is definitely a strong choice for me. Their employment data this year was also substantially better than it was last year. It does take time though. I believe I had asked for an increase almost a month ago.

Thanks. I heard back as well. They matched a peer school's offer for me.timeandspace11 wrote:AlanShore wrote:Anyone hear back on scholarship negotiations? Sent a request last Monday and they asked for a hard copy of offer and said they would consider it. I sent it but havent heard back

Is it just me or does BU think that its ranking is like #17 w/ good employment stats when in reality its ranking is #29 w/bad employment stats?

I'm thinking that many of you, like me, probably have similar offers from BC and BU (as well as from other similarly ranked schools). With the same two seat deposit deadlines (4/15 and 6/1), who else is planning on putting deposits down at both schools with the hope that more money may be released between the two deadlines? For me easily the biggest factor in all of this is the bottom line cost of attendance figure, and having seen and liked both schools, and with them being so similar in many respects, whichever school gives me a better offer is where I'm going to attend. What are all your thoughts on this?

On the scholarship thing. They rejected my request for an increase in aid. I provided them larger offers from Minn, GW, UCLA, W&L etc., and they wouldn't budge from 20k per year.

Wow thats surprising. Maybe they are cutting their class size and are confident they can put together what they need. The fact that they did not respond to the UCLA offer is what is really surprising to me.

Received my admittance packet today in the mail, but there was no mention of a merit-based scholarship. It sounds like most peoples' scholarships were listed on their acceptance letter... should I not be expecting a scholly?

Re: BU 2012-2013 Applicants
Schools tend to be most moved by what schools THEY consider their peers and which ones they are naturally vying for students with. BU is going to be more swayed by BC and Fordham than a melange of Midwestern and Western schools and those VA schools. I'm surprised GW didn't get you a bit of love.timeandspace11 wrote:CTT wrote:On the scholarship thing. They rejected my request for an increase in aid. Same thing happened to me. I'm not feeling too optimistic about BU.PRgradBYU wrote:Received my admittance packet today in the mail, but there was no mention of a merit-based scholarship. For all of you who didnt receive scholarships with your acceptance packet...
I got accepted in early Feb, just got a scholarship award via email last week. If you don't feel like waiting (i don't know why anyone would) just shoot them an email with offers from peer schools to get the ball rolling.

What schools would y'all consider "peers"? I'm still waiting on a decision from BC and didn't apply to any other Boston schools, but have money from WUSTL and several other schools that consistently rank above BC/BU.szb5058 wrote:For all of you who didnt receive scholarships with your acceptance packet...

They negotiated with my BC money, but not my WUSTL award. I think it'd have to be a higher ranked east coast school for them to bite. Good luck though!deuceindc wrote:What schools would y'all consider "peers"? Thanks! there is still hope. but, I guess it's not good that I'm still waiting on BCs offer because now I can't negotiate.szb5058 wrote:For all of you who didnt receive scholarships with your acceptance packet...

Re: BU 2012-2013 Applicants
Although you don't have an offer from another peer school, you can still negotiate. Write a well-written, articulate email that shows what BU's estimated COA is compared with the job prospects. Show them that attending at sticker is just irresponsible in today's shifting legal market, and show why you're worth the investment. Literally the worst that can happen is they say no. But with only 2 weeks until the deadline, you probably don't have the time to just wait and see if they offer you anything. Be proactive people!.....hopefully I'll see some of you in the fallTUICE wrote:Thanks! there is still hope. but, I guess it's not good that I'm still waiting on BCs offer because now I can't negotiate.szb5058 wrote:For all of you who didnt receive scholarships with your acceptance packet...

There was no mention of a scholly in my acceptance packet. I got an email about two weeks after my acceptance with a PDF Financial Aid Award Letter, so I think it just varies person to person.

So here's a question--I'm in at BU with no scholarship (a little surprising), and also at Baylor with 133k Scholarship (those are the only two schools i've heard back from). I suppose this is the age old, sticker at a T1 versus Full-ride+stipend at a T2. I'm curious for some input.

Frankly, I have no clue how they'd react, but I definitely think it's worth a try! I think they'd understand that it's hard to turn down a full ride anywhere for sticker...Jarndyce&Jarndyce wrote:So here's a question--I'm in at BU with no scholarship (a little surprising), and also at Baylor with 133k Scholarship (those are the only two schools i've heard back from). On a related note - I negotiated with BU and BC once already and would like to bring my new offer from BC back to BU to see if they'll match since I'm leaning more toward BU at this point. Is it ok to go back and try to negotiate a second time like this? It feels obnoxious, but I'm really looking to minimize debt.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
