How do you think that employment panned out for your class? how many already have jobs within the private sector (approximately)?
Thanks!

I can't speak for the class as a whole, but probably 70% of my good friends that wanted biglaw have it. Most of them were top 33%, but a few were median, and a couple are below median.T20hopeful89 wrote:How do you think that employment panned out for your class? how many already have jobs within the private sector (approximately)?JenDarby wrote:As a rising 3L, I'm tagging this thread in case there's anything I can help with.

I can't think of anyone on LR who wanted biglaw and didnt get it, off the top of my head. I'm sure they exist though.
I think it might have been a rough year overall, that being said. BUST YOUR ASS OFF 1L if you want biglaw, and know that it still very well might not happen.

Re: Fordham c/o 2016/17 (2012-2013 Cycle)
I'm torn, though..any advice about the following would be greatly appreciated.
I have a 15k scholly at BC, and have deposited a G there already... If I attend Fordham, I will be paying about 6k more a year at sticker. For your sake I won't bother you with how I got to the numbers, but I would be staying at home with my 'rents and not keeping my car.
Any luck negotiating schollys here (I've seen a lot of no luck posts) ? I have 25k/yr offers from BK and Cardozo as well, should I throw that in there if I attempt to negotiate? I have until Friday to deposit at Fordham, at a minimum I would like to know what my Fin Aid packet looks like even if I am not getting a scholarship to know what types of loans I'm being offered.. how quick are they to respond with fin aid info?
The scholarships are without stipulations. I want to practice in NY. I am considering BigLaw. Sorry for the essay. I luhhhh y'all who answer in advance.

You may have luck with the BC offer. My friend who had 10k/yr at BC, but really wanted Fordham, was able to get 5k/yr at Fordham right around this time two years ago. With applications down, I think this year you would have a shot at that. It's certainly worth a try. I hesitate to analyze the choice further until you see where you land on scholarship negotiations.PerezNY wrote:Just admitted off the WL!

"Are the evening students ranked along with the entire class? For example, if their GPA places them in the top 10% of the class, is that the top 10% of the entire class, or just the evening division?
If they are only ranked with the evening division, does that change if an evening student transfers into the full-time division? Would they have to start anew or are their grades as evening students considered in ranking them after matriculating as a day student? Also, considering these questions, can evening students grade onto Law Review?"
Thanks in advance.

Class rankings are only established at the end of the year. At the end of 2012 aprpximate class standings were determined. If you switch from evening to day, than you will be curved against whatever your "new" class is.
Rising 2LD/3LE/2LE students are all ranked on the same scale as each other.
Rising 3LD/4LE students are all ranked on the same scale as each other.
I am not sure how journal works for evening students, but it seems logical that of the are graded on the same scale as day students than they can similarly grade onto LR.
Here is the current curve:

PT student here: JenDarby provided great information, and is right on for ranking stuff. Essentially, as an evening student, you spend your first 2 years being compared with 1Ls (and either 1Es or 2Es). Essentially, the evening division is just another section or two out of which the 1L class is composed.PerezNY wrote:Hey JenDarby or any other current student...I tried asking the following question to two diff people at the admissions office and they were unable to provide an answer. Perhaps you have some personal or anecdotal info to help.

And it doesn't change with a transfer into full-time. If you're top 33%, you're top 33% (albeit with fewer credits, and it is possible that firms will take this into account at OCI, especially if you don't work 1E).
Evening students can grade onto law review. I'm on LR but honestly have no idea whether I graded or wrote on. There's some process in the LR rules by which evening students receive a portion of the grade-on spots but I have to assume that's a very small number given the proportion of day to evening students in the law school. I also don't know if that ratio takes into account how many 1Es lateral into the day program. Hope that helps and wasn't too much info!

Also, Jen, I had some luck negotiating with the BC scholly as you predicted. They were able to match it. It's official, I'm going to Fordham this fall!

I think I already sold mine to a TLSer. I will check when I get home. I skimmed the table of contents. If you cannot track it down for cheap (or really either way) I advise against spending money on it or doing anything more than skimming it.Zhosh wrote:Anyone have a "Whose Monet?" they would be willing to lend or sell?
