Yep, you're gonna be a joy to be around. Since it's the interwebs I don't really feel the need to be perfect with my spelling. Yal is faster so that's what I type. I'll answer the rest of the questions later tonight.romanticegotist wrote:I mean I've only lived in Austin for like a year and a half but I know it's "y'all" not "yal"blackmooncreeping wrote:Another 1L here. I'll try to answer whatever questions yal have provided that at least one of yal buys me a drink at the first bar review of your illustrious law career.

Oh you can't begrudge a future law student a little spelling correction! I'll buy you a drink if I attend to make up for it.blackmooncreeping wrote:Yep, you're gonna be a joy to be around. Wow, thats quick especially for a splitter. Congratulations, but this makes me want to cry over the 3 months that I have been waiting.WokeUpInACar wrote:Stats in profile, went complete 1/30

Thanks for the positive response. I don't see how I could possibly get in with my numbers and my lack of residency even with my strong softs but I appreciate the optimism. I would be in Austin in heartbeat if I got accepted. UT would be a dream.shifty_eyed wrote:I was held in December and got accepted a couple of weeks ago via phone call. I thought maybe my new LORs helped, but a couple other splitters like me were accepted on the same day, so it was probably purely a numbers thing.The-Specs wrote:Any ideas on when they will start getting around to those who were held from EA?
I think being held is still a good place to be in, and I have a good feeling you will get in eventually!

I'm not gonna be able to give you an answer for anybody else other than the group of people I hang with at school so this is by no means representative. That said, I don't have anything lined up yet and I would say among my small section (roughly 25) its about a 50-50 split of those who have something and those who don't. By and large the people who have gigs lined up for the summer are the ones who really busted their ass to find something, it's shocking how many apps you can send out as a 1L before you'll get a nibble from an employer. I can think of around 10 people in my big section (roughly 80) who have landed 1L SA gigs but pretty much all of them have good grades/awesome connections or both. That number may be higher as I don't talk to everyone I'm in class with. I also know quite a few people who are interning for a judge which is fairly common for 1L's.curious66 wrote:Thanks!! How do the job prospects look for 1L's for the summer this year? Sorry if this is too early to ask this question.blackmooncreeping wrote:Another 1L here. I have no idea if this is what it is usually like for 1L's at UT so you may need to check with 2 and 3L's on that but just from talking with my mentor it seems that this is pretty standard.

Re: University of TEXAS c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
I'd say about the only thing that has shifted for me career goal wise is a desire to at least attempt to land a clerkship. I'm not sure how much this has to do with UT though seeing I had absolutely no clue what this was before 1L year started. I also came into law school with a strong desire to practice in a specific area though so I may not be the best person to ask this question to.JXander wrote:Do you find that your initial career goals (if any) have shifted as your first year has progressed? Psh. I'll buy you all drinks if this school will just frickin accept me.

Good luck! As a 3L at UT, let me know if there are any questions I can answer tonight that would help in getting ready for the interview. (Feel free to PM if you don't want to ask them publicly.)JXander wrote:My interview is tomorrow. SO nervous.

Out of curiosity, how do UT students view/interact with St. Edwards Law students? In my job I've dealt with an even number of both (as consultants/lobbysists, etc) and I'm not from Texas so I don't know what the dynamic is like.blackmooncreeping wrote:Another 1L here. What is a "St. Edwards?"

There is no St. Edward's law school. You may be thinking of St. Mary's, which is in San Antonio. UT is the only law school in Austin.romanticegotist wrote:Out of curiosity, how do UT students view/interact with St. Edwards law students? Wow my bad! I must have seen the credentials of some of these folks and misread the education information...carry on.philosoraptor wrote:There is no St. Edward's law school. Although that brings me to a related point: If possible, go back in time and get a job with the Bush administration/campaign; it makes getting cushy jobs in Austin way easier.

Interesting bit of information. According to LSN the applicants in last years cycle all heard from UT with a decision by Feb 28 with the exception of 3 applicants that applied on Feb 1st and they heard back by Mar 17. If that holds for this year at least it will all be over soon...

I sure hope you're right! I'd seriously give up a kidney to get into UT right now...The-Specs wrote:Interesting bit of information.
