Ah, bummer. :( If you got held (your numbers/softs totally trump mine), I'm expecting my email any minute. Ugh.

Sorry, bud. That's a real shit way to begin your Wednesday. I feel for ya.

Also, very much agree with BYU. This is more than disconcerting.

Thanks. Larties are you a urm? Seems to be lots of urms in limbo at the moment.

Affirmative (get it?).

Hispanic (not M.A.), if anyone is keeping track.

Thanks for the head ups! For people ITT who don't feel like checking the URM one - it was NOT a post-hold JS1, just a late submitter.
Thanks for allowing me to avoid a heart attack...for now

I'm asking this because I legitimately don't know: but all Hispanics aren't URM's correct?

As I understood it URM consists of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Native American and African American only. Is that correct?

I've heard Central/South America and Caribbean get a small boost but I have no idea.

Hah, I was literally just thumbing through that thread to see if I could find an answer myself.

It makes sense that it would be restricted to some groups of minorities, though. It is a classification Under-Represented Minority, not just a minority, afterall. So while your family may be from Ecuador, law schools probably have a roughly proportional sampling of Ecuadorians (very minuscule). However, since MAs make up such a huge part of the American population and such a low percentage of law school applicants, it makes sense that they would be included; they are truly under-represented.

Yeah, that page linked above makes it sound like you may get a boost for "diversity" if you're from one of those regions, but not the bona fide URM boost.

The way it plays in...I did TFA in Phoenix at the height of SB1070 controversy.

My PS was about that experience, not about why there should be more URMs, but I think it was a central piece of my application.

I love that, according to that page, an example of a "soft" that they give is "Winning an Olympic medal."

That, or having a background with extensive community service. You know, whichever is easier.

IIRC, the HLS application, unlike the other schools I applied to, did not specifically have a selection for Mexican and Puerto Rican. That, combined with my admittance (south American) leads me to believe that they give a boost to Hispanics in general. JS also brought my ethnicity up in interview.

She brought it up during my JS1, too, and mentioned that she is ALSO Hispanic. FWIW

Yeah, I hypothesize that since she's also not mex/pr, she's decided not to differentiate.

Are JS and KB the only people doing the interview?

Do people typically send thank you notes or emails after the interview?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
