Still waiting as well.
Quick question. My gpa just jumped to a 3.90 (3.88 when I applied). Can I tell them to hold my application until they receive the transcript update?

Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
This used to be the case, but last year Columbia actively pulled people off reserve, especially high-LSAT splitters. With the continued decline in apps I would expect them to do the same for this cycle.djwjddl wrote:it doesn't . There are three "reserve" AKA WL rounds. Columbia makes decisions on reserve candidates first in June, then in July and then finally in Aug. In each round, you'll either get accepted, rejected or moved on to the next round. Just looking through past threads and LSN, no one really gets accepted from the reserve pool. Ok, some people do but these are folks (with the exception of, of course, a few special snowflakes) who were seemingly WL'd for YP purposes to begin with.sc-123 wrote:Can you elaborate on this? How does Columbia's WL work?djwjddl wrote:don't wanna be a debbie downer, but it won't ever do you any good given the way Columbia's WL works.amsong wrote:I wrote the bestest LOCI ever. In other words, Columbia's WL is a slow painful death.

No, definitely not worse than Stanford. Maybe I'm biased because Columbia gave me an NCE and and Stanford has given me nothing but silence and dwindling hope?helix23 wrote:Worse than Stanford's?NoodleyOne wrote:Columbia has the worst admissions process in the T14, hands down.

I am probably biased as well, but I find Stanford and Yale's admissions process to be the worst. You submit and... one day, get a phone call or e-mail. And that's that.iteachtenthgrade wrote:No, definitely not worse than Stanford. Maybe I'm biased because Columbia gave me an NCE and and Stanford has given me nothing but silence and dwindling hope?

Just to play devil's avocado here, I think we're a little spoiled by the status checker too. Remember undergrad admissions? Not rolling, and no notification whatsoever until the day an envelope comes, up to six months after you applied. Absolutely barbaric. Though not unlike CLS.carboncopyx wrote:I am probably biased as well, but I find Stanford and Yale's admissions process to be the worst. You submit and... one day, get a phone call or e-mail. In this modern era, notifying applicants only by mail is a sin that cannot be topped.

Haha, when I applied, you could view your decision letter electronically on April 1 (or maybe it was March 31). We called it "Superday," and I left school early to go to a friend's house, where we went into the computer, one-by-one, and checked our decision letters. I think that was better since you actually knew what day exactly you were going to have your dreams fulfilled or dashed to the ground.ph5354a wrote:Just to play devil's avocado here, I think we're a little spoiled by the status checker too. Um isn't ug process the best? You know exactly when you will hear back. No need to constantly check status checker/email/mail 24/7....ph5354a wrote:Just to play devil's avocado here, I think we're a little spoiled by the status checker too. Remember undergrad admissions? All of my schools had a set day on which they would notify you of admission either via email or via some sort of website. While you might not have received decisions as quickly, it was kinda nice because there wasn't this constant vigilance, jumping at every phone call, email message, big white envelope, etc.ph5354a wrote:Just to play devil's avocado here, I think we're a little spoiled by the status checker too. I was pleasantly surprised by my UG acceptances and rejections because I completely forgot I applied and had no idea what the process was. Same for my SAT. I miss my apathy.

You all make good points. It was a simpler time. I know I for one was 1,000 times less manic back then too.sinfiery wrote:I was pleasantly surprised by my UG acceptances and rejections because I completely forgot I applied and had no idea what the process was. Same for my SAT. I miss my apathy.

I periodically cried throughout March because I was so nervous about UG acceptances.

Though it's fun to imagine what would happen if I actually thought that's what the phrase was. And in a CLS thread, no less. The pile-on would be epic.BigZuck wrote:Damn, I thought maybe it was a reference I didn't know and it was.ph5354a wrote:30 Rock reference. I think I've actually become less neurotic/OCD since then, thank goodness (which still isn't saying a lot). Here, have some anti-anxiety pills!sinfiery wrote:You also had infinitely more on the line than me!carboncopyx wrote: ...

Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Honestly, I prefer Yale and Stanford's processes to this status-checker business (although Stanford's is less favorable: it has now been confirmed that email change to lowercase = acceptance, ruining the element of surprise and encouraging neurotic status-checking). I wish schools would just email when app is complete and then send you an email if you get in/are dinged. That way we could not engage in the self-feeding neurosis that is status-checking.helix23 wrote:Worse than Stanford's?NoodleyOne wrote:Columbia has the worst admissions process in the T14, hands down.
On this view, Columbia's process almost gets good marks. I say almost because neurotic mailbox checking is > status-checker checking (because mail only comes once a day) but worse than email.
