Late LOR to schools?

So my boss (a senior attorney at the DOJ) offered to write a letter of recommendation to schools I've been waitlisted at and any school that I've yet to hear from. Obviously there are two categories of schools here so any advice on either would be helpful.
So do you think it's wise to send it to waitlisted schools? Schools that haven't responded? Both?
Do I go about it through LSAC/CAS or do I send it directly to the schools? Do I email admissions officers as to who to send it to/to warn them to be on the lookout for these letters? Do you think it's even worth my time/will it make a difference?
Any other advice/general knowledge I should know before doing this.
Thanks for your help.
