Maybe, but -- in addition to some denials -- they sent WLs to some 2/17-->3/15 people Friday. That there were more denials than waitlists makes sense, given their overall proportion in any applicant pool. This is mostly speculation, but here's what I think:

The 2/17 crowd is the last batch Penn is considering. Since the cycle is basically over, this group most likely consists of people who applied right up to the deadline (and more likely than not have strong stats), and people Penn has held until the very end, like splitters and applicants with low stats but that are for whatever reason intriguing and/or confusing to the admissions committee (URMs, Olympians, novelists, me...haha). This explains the wildly divergent stats in the 2/17 group.

Now, at first I thought we could tell what was going to happen to who based on dates. But on second thought, considering the size of this batch (it's probably huge), the dates seem irrelevant. That is, Penn seems to just be grabbing a bunch of files from this last batch and deciding who to admit, deny, or waitlist each group at a time. This explains the seemingly random way in which Penn is choosing who goes 2/17-->3/15.

Except, except, except...there seem to have been no acceptances from the 2/17 group yet. I'm sure Penn has something systematic going, as they only have a certain number of acceptances left to offer. They are probably dividing this last big batch into similarly sized groups and choosing a certain number of admissions from each. So although those of us that haven't been dinged can still get dinged or waitlisted, there have got to at least some of us getting in...right? Soooo, for example, since 2/17-->3/15 dings and waitlists went out Friday, I think moxy is getting in Monday, or whatever day we hear next about 2/17-->3/15 people.

Is that coherent?

Haha! True. But I'm saying -- you wanna know what's going on, don't you?

I figure this can be my last little bit of constructive thinking before going out and getting THROWN...Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!

Who me!!! Lol :) With my numbers, the only way I can get in is if I demonstrate that I can walk on water ... which I clearly cannot ... but I will take a wl. A ding might make me sad though ...

Is that coherent?

the observation that no 2/17 people seem to have been accepted yet is an interesting one. it makes me feel a lot better about still being under UR 1. more speculation: i wonder how many URMs have been admitted this cycle and if Penn is waiting to let URMs (with lower numbers, at least) in until the very end? in any event, it's good to know there's still hope for the waiting 2/17ers...

haha agreed. the delay has made me less excited about penn/columbia, both of which used to be top choices for me.

Anyone who was 2/17 - 3/15 still waiting for a response. Most schools were fairly prompt with their WL/Ding emails. Come on Penn .. some closure will be nice.

just noticed the three of us stuck at 2/17 are all splitters.

maybe you 2/17 - 3/15 people have no answer because they didn't want to wl or ding you last week? we didn't hear of any acceptances that round
