In at Chicago: Class of 2015
It was recently brought to our attention that there isn't an "In at" thread for Chicago.
For those who aren't committed enough to feel a sense of belonging in the Chicago Class of 2015 thread just yet, but still have things to discuss.

I don’t think so, Stanford has my heart . But Chicago is still in the game. I won’t go to ASW if I decide before then, though. I need to research.MumofCad wrote:Hahaha! Oh, you guys. It should at least be approaching the 40s by the end of March, haha. I'm starting to get really, really excited about Chicago. I had been fairly set on NYU, but the more I read about UChi, the better it looks. There are so many hard decisions in the future.
As for scholarships, I haven't heard anything yet. When they called, they said scholarship info would come out in 3-4 weeks, which was about 2.5 weeks ago, so hopefully we start hearing soon!!

How long was it between "application under review" and acceptance for you guys?

A really long time, but they didn't start releasing decisions for anyone other than EDers until January (I think?). It should start going a bit faster now. Check complete/ decision dates on LSN.lndixon wrote:How long was it between "application under review" and acceptance for you guys?

Re: In at Chicago: Class of 2015
Thanks! It looks like a huge batch went out around the 13th. Mine was complete on 12/30 and has been "under review" since 1/27. Looking at the numbers gives me a little more hope. I see a lot lower than mine were accepted. So here's to hoping...thatkid wrote:A really long time, but they didn't start releasing decisions for anyone other than EDers until January (I think?). Well, I guess this would be the correct place to express my fear of the Chicago wind/winter.
And according to LSN, it seems like Chicago does all of their decisions in huge batches. So the first set of admits this year was 1/13, and for last year's cycle it was 1/10, the second set of admits last year was on 2/10 so I would guess sometime next week for the second batch. And then the third batch was around 3/24.

Hey y'all. Checking in. Glad to be able to post in one of these cool "In at" threads without worrying about jinxing myself!
I really hope that it isn't cold at ASW, Amanda. It's like the very end of March. Although, TBF, it definitely snowed at my New England UG in April before, and I don't think Chicago is exempt from that extended winter madness.
Also, can I just say that I thought the materials we all got in the mail were pretty snazzy?

Checking in here as well.
In past years, Texas has snowed in April. Here's hoping ASW weather is nice to us.

Okay, I live in the Midwest so I’m used to the cold, but Chicago is on another level, especially because of the wind. I was there in April last year and was freezing, so I don’t have my hopes up that it will be warm. Christ, I’ve been there in SEPTEMBER and was freezing. I’m starting to doubt that it’s ever warm there.
(Note: I hate the cold. I think a lot of weather is cold that most people consider to be warm.)

Just bumping this since there was Ruby movement today and its clogging up the Chicago thread..
Discuss away. Does this change anyone's thought process? Either that Chi is out because they had hoped to get one, or that Chi is now moving UP?! I wouldn't withdraw if you were hoping for one just yet. Sounds like as people withdraw that more are extended.

It moves way down without one for me, but I won't withdraw just yet.MumofCad wrote:Just bumping this since there was Ruby movement today and its clogging up the Chicago thread..

Does anyone know the actual amount for the Ruby? $50,000/year + $10,000/year? So $180,000?

Tuition is less than 50K this year (~47K), but it'll probably go up a little every year. $180K sounds like a reasonable estimate.Zelda wrote:Does anyone know the actual amount for the Ruby? $50,000/year + $10,000/year? So $180,000?

So honored to get a Ruby. Makes it a very very tough decision. I'm so so in love with Yale--I really don't think I'll be able to turn it down. But--because I have significant savings + my parents make a lot of money, but won't really have any to pay for tuition--the decision is probably literally 0 debt vs. 200K. Good problem to have, I know.

Ha, well, with HLS, SLS and the Hamilton in your pocket, I doubt you're too broken up about the UChi waitlist.yankees42789 wrote:Congrats to you and all the other Ruby recipients! Merrrr... Harvard was always the dream, but I've been granted a Ruby, so this makes it really tough...

Re: In at Chicago: Class of 2015
In my view, Ruby vs Yale is an easier decision to make if its $0 debt vs $200k. UChicago is very similar to Yale, and it is almost as great in all ways that Yale is great in. $200k is a lot of money you would have to pay for that small bit of differences.Elston Gunn wrote:So honored to get a Ruby. On the other hand, Ruby vs Harvard is a tougher decision even if it's $0 debt vs $200k. Harvard is very different from UChicago. No other school can match the Harvard brand outside of the legal profession and outside of the United States. Also, you will meet more power brokers and business leaders of tomorrow at Harvard than any other university in the world. If you are interested in niche topics, Harvard could help you explore them better than any university. If Harvard is the type of school you would like to attend, $200k shouldn't matter much in the grand scheme of things.

Re: In at Chicago: Class of 2015
Just so y'all know, last year they did waves of rubys so if you don't have one now that doesn't mean that you won't get anything. And UChicago also is pretty generous with the non-ruby financial aid!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
