Hi, I was just asked to interview with an alum from Georgetown, but my numbers are 172 4.0+. I don't feel entitled or anything to an acceptance but I thought that these interviews were for borderline candidates. I was just wondering if you guys think its yield protection or there is something else wrong with my application.

I don't think anyone would be able to tell you without knowing more details about your application (i.e. resume, PS).

This. They might also be trying to gauge interest for scholarship purposes and/or YP.

I have an average to above average resume with two drinking tickets though

I'm a borderline candidate and I got invited to a group interview. Maybe they're saving the personal interviews for the better candidates and putting the borderline candidates in group interviews to save on time?

That's what I was thinking. It says there are technically no ramifications for turning down the interview, but is turning it down going to be really off-putting for the staff there?

Don't know if there's any ramifications, but if it's YP interview, then I can imagine you'd need a pretty good excuse to not do it and have them still think you're really intent on going there.

I am definitely a borderline candidate that is much more likely to be ultimately w/l or rejected and I was offered a personal interview too so the theory about group interviews doesn't hold. Also though they technically say it is not required, the little FAQ sheet they include with the offer says in bold that it is STRONGLY recommended. Although it is for borderline candidates people have to remember that designation does not necessarily mean the same thing for everyone. For the OP it is either a YP issue or making sure you don't do something in an interview that would constitute a deal breaker, maybe they do want to ask about the tickets but either way I'm sure you have a great chance with those numbers. For someone like me its probably just to make sure I'm not some kind of charismatic engaging superstar they are missing out on. (I'm not)

Assuming all that you have told us is true, you should have no problem getting into Georgetown. You are not a borderline candidate by any means. Georgetown hasn't really been known to YP in the traditional sense (waitlisting high lsat/gpa applicants) but maybe they are starting use interviews as a quasi-YP check.

If you're interested in Georgetown, i would do the interview. If not, respectfully decline and enjoy life at YHS

I was offered the group interview but couldn't make it due to timing. About a week later I was offered the alum interview. I'm not sure if this is standard, as I like in a major metropolitan city, but I was accepted today if that helps!
