Congrats on those that have been accepted! I am now a 2L at mason. If there are any general question about the campus, faculty, course load I would be more than happy to answer (I don't live near campus so I won't be much help on housing)
For those that are on the wait-list and get into the PAST Program: do it! thats how I got admitted. I'm willing to answer questions about the Program also.
PM me or reply.
Enjoy your summer, family and friends, you won't have a life in the fall!

Komaliie or any other current/former GMU students,
I'm mostly concerned with 0L summer prep and it seems as though the TLS consensus more or less is to read Getting to Maybe, update your resume and draft a general cover letter for 1L summer job search. I understand all GMU 1Ls are required to take an econ class and the school emphasizes the nexus between law and economics in their curriculum. My concern stems from a lack of experience with economics (only took 1 course in microecon), is there any sort of advice you have for me so I won't be at a great disadvantage compared to those who have this background? GMU put out a summer reading list and one of the "Strongly Recommended" books is Law and Economics in a Nutshell by Jeffrey Harrison, do you think this would be worth the read or unnecessary in my circumstance? Also, any other advice re 0L prep or housing (mostly areas to avoid) would be appreciated.

PAST Program is for those students that have been waitlisted. You've been accepted so you have nothing to worry about!TIKITEMBO wrote:Thanks Komliie I'm already accepted, but what is the PAST Program? I can't seem to find any info on it.

I can't tell you about Getting to Maybe as I never read it.btowncane wrote:Komaliie or any other current/former GMU students,

Summer job search? WOW. Believe me, finding a job will not be on your mind once school starts. Eating and sleeping will be your #1 priority. I would recommend not worrying about that at all. GMU has a fall workshop for Resumes and Cover Letters.
Mason is DEFINITELY Econ focused. Similar to you, I have no Econ background and found the Econ class to be INCREDIBLY HARD. I wish someone would have told be this; so my recommendation for you is to definitely read the Nutshell. Understand the basic concepts (I youtubed the concepts and that really helped) Ofcourse this doesn't mean know everything b/c the two professors that teach the class, teach completely differently, and focus on different concepts. After the basic Econ class, other classes discuss Econ concepts but they're easier to grasp.
Other general advice: gets the Examples and Explanations. Believe me, you will learn much more from these books than you will from the casebooks or class notes. Once you get your assigned sections, shoot me an email with your Professors and I can send you my outlines (kkhanb@gmu.edu)
Unfortunately, I dont live near campus so I can't give you housing advice.
